I have never owned a real game console.  Growing up, my mother didn't want me to "rot my brain" playing video games and so until I was 18 and could "make my own decisions" I could not own one.  The closest my mother would let me get to a game console was a "Tomy Tutor".  Yikes.

Once I reached 18, I could never afford to spend the dough on a console system.  I really wanted one, but I had to choose between a place to live and food to eat and my desire to game.  Food and shelter tend to win under those conditions.

Now I am 35, and while you would think I can just go out and get whatever I want, I still can't afford a gaming system (you don't even want to know how shitty my financial situation is now, and WTF are these prices for consoles and their games, just WTF) I really feel like I missed out on some really good fun.

I felt just self-deprecating enough today to throw this out there...

OK... I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're legitimately being honest here. There's no need to buy a current gen console. Why not buy a PS2 -around $130- or if that's too expensive, buy a refurbished XBox or GameCube; about $50. There's large libraries of games for all of those consoles and games are still being made for the PS2. You can find cheap games -preowned or new- for all of the above.

Yeah, you don't necessarily have to have a current console.
Due to issues of lack of games, reliability and price, I still don't have ANY of the new consoles and I'm having a blast with dirt cheap games for my X-box 1! Just go into any Eb Games (under normal circumstances, I wouldn't condone that  icon_lol ) and you'll find a TON of used X-Box games! I got Silent Hill 4 for $3!

Blockbuster also has loads, plus some new ones for good prices as well.

I actually have a perfect condition slim PS2 that works beautifully with a wired and a wireless controller that I was considering selling.  $50 plus shipping sounds about right too.

When I get back in town from Christmas maybe we, or someone, could talk about it.  I have never ever ever had an ounce of trouble with it.  Will even throw in a couple of games for free to get you started.

Think it over.

so you've never been laid and never owned a console, or just never owned a console? - cuz if it's the former, i'd strongly suggest taking care of first things first. otherwise, i'd take advantage of mikeg's generous offer immediately (assuming you already have a tv?), because you have indeed missed out on some really good fun (& it sounds like you could use some)...

You know...if he want to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, the wise thing to do would be to get laid by a lady that owns a current gen console.  icon_twisted

Monetarlly (is that even a word?) it is all about priorities.  Yours seem to be in the right place.  I.E. survival.  Mine have never been in the right place which is why I ended up having to come hide out in school for 5 years to get a degree.

Like most things, if you want something bad enough, there is a way to get it.  This is why I don't have a functional car at this point in time for instance, but do have consoles and games.

Don't, under any circumstances, sully popping your cherry with a shittastic gamecube. When you can scrape the money together, buy a used PS2 and go nuts on the library of games!
