So I'm finally thinking of getting a 360 today, since it's my birthday.  Rock band is a given, but I'm looking for suggestions for other games that are great on 360, preferably ones that are older and that I might be able to find used for less than the typical $50-$60.  Any suggestions?  The two games I will NOT be getting are Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War, as I've played both on the PC.  Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.  I'll play pretty much anything on a console, although I'm not terribly fond of console shooter controls.

Older games I would recommend are Crackdown and Tomb Raider: Legend (if you haven't played it on PC). There's also Dead Rising - I was not a huge fan, but others loved it.

Grand Theft Auto IV?
Lost Odyssey?
Mass Effect?
Forza 2?
Dead Rising?

Gotta narrow down the likes and dislikes a bit, there's a ton of great games out there for the 360.

Some personal favorites I've enjoyed are Oblivion, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Bioshock, The Godfather, Forza 2, and Portal on The Orange Box.  Even though they're more recent games, I enjoyed playing through The Bourne Conspiracy, although it is rather short, and GTA IV continues to hold my interest more than any other story-driven games in my collection.

Outside of Rock Band, I'd second (third?) Bioshock, Mass Effect, Oblivion, and give a tentative recommendation for Lost Odyssey.  There's some excellent XBL titles as well.  I'm partial to Puzzle Quest, Rez, and Settlers of Cataan.

Crackdown, Tomb Raider: Legend and GTA IV are all a blast.  Also, Vikings rocked hard and is fairly cheap now.

If you have some younger players around your household I'd recommend Viva Pinata and Kameo.

Despite the fact that no one recommended it yet, go through the Halo series. All can be had for cheap, and coop play is excellent. (only 3 offers online coop).

call of duty 2 and call of duty 3 should be cheap now, still great games

Project Gotham Racing 4 i absolutely loved.....didnt like the others for some reason

lego star wars :..either the original trilogy or the complete saga(former would be cheaper, but latter you get all the movies)
lego indiana jones

for Value..and as PeteRock says i also reckon you should go with the orange box, which contains Half-Life 2,Half-Life 2:episode 1,Half-Life 2:episode 2,Team Fortress 2 and Portal...all great games and as its over 6 months old now,you will prolly find cheap

I agree about the music and just about every other aspect of Halo 1 and 3 make them more than worth your play time. I might be wrong about this, but IIRC both Halo 1 & 2 can be played online co-op via the free Xbox Connect (XBConnect) service. The only problem is the lack of voicechat, which of course can be remedied via Teamspeak, Ventrillo, Xfire, Skype or any other PC chat client.

My favorites (in order of favoritenessishness)

Rainbow 6 Vegas
NHL 07/08
GTAIV
Battlestations: Midway
GRAW2
PGR3
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2
Guitar Hero II
Ace Combat 6
GRAW

I remember your enjoyment of the first PC GRAW... you definitely want to check out R6V and GRAW2... and if you are going to do that, you might as well check out GRAW and R6V2.

If you haven't played COD4, you could give it a rental on 360... or buy it on PC since it's better there.
