Anyone playing this?

Concerns about performance are the only thing that has stopped me from giving this a whirl.

Here is a good article on why performance isn't so hot right now.

I've had few problems with performance overall. Sure, it's not silky smooth, but it's still in development.

But yes, this game has a lot of fast and intense action when a fight breaks out.

Really though, I don't play it much simply because the game progression so far has been pretty linear since still large chunks of the tech tree from the previous games is gone, and there's still a lot more they could do to differentiate from the original. Or, at least, getting the things in the game that do make this more than an HD version of the mod work properly.

I also think they need to get rid of the concept of the readyroom entirely. Not because I don't like it, but if you allow players to pick their team before joining a match, you inevitably get more skill stacking than if it was just random, and you have situations where someone is AFK in the ready room, taking up a server slot that could go to playing. It was an interesting concept when the game was a mod, but they need to push players straight into the game.

beware discount keys:

Quote
Recently we asked Valve to deactivate 1,341 Steam keys that were purchased through our website. As a result, some Natural Selection 2 players who were previously able to play the game on Steam are now receiving a “Buy Again” option instead of the “Play” option. This episode is a prime example of why all gamers need to beware discount steam keys and those offering them.

We deactivated these keys because they keys were purchased with credit cards where the card-holder initiated a “charge-back.” A charge-back is a consumer protection mechanism offered by payment companies such as Visa, allowing a card-holder to dispute a charge on their credit card statement. This means we never received payment for the game. In fact, we were charged a fee by the card issuer for the charge-back. For these 1,341 keys, these fees totalled around $30,000.

sucks that they got dinged for $30K.
