This one is old school.  The name of it eludes me.

It was an RPG, may have been on the Amiga or C64.  One thing I found interesting about it was one of the races had wings, and you could actually fly short distances.

I think it was a sword-and-magic RPG, and was turn based with kind of a 3/4 overhead view.

Origin's Knights of Legend by any chance? Think one of the races had a wings.

The games most distinguishing feature on the C64 was having to swap disks continually. I really wanted to play the game but the amount of disk swapping that needed to be done was just inane.

Wow... the disk shuffle sounds really familiar too.  I think that is it- at the moment I'm surfing for screenshots.

Heheh, I can't believe you guys actually played that game, too.  It's not exactly a popular one (as far as I know), and that was like 20 years ago.

well, it was an Origin title, so everyone had high expectations of it being the next Ultima.  And as for it being almost 20 years old, well, GET OFF MY LAWN!

I didn't really stick with it, but I did remember some of the aspects of it.  I think I finally got pissed off with the difficulty and especially the constant disk swapping, so went and played something else instead.

I've got a copy of it on 5.25" floppies smile  (Of course my avatar kind of gives away the fact that I'm an Origin fan) Found it at a Goodwill several years ago along with a PC version of Ultima V.

I don't post that much, but this thread brought back memories.  Anyone remember Wizard's Crown?  It was a great SSI RPG that predated the later D&D stuff (if I remember correctly).  I'm pretty sure it was the first RPG I actually played all the way through.  Really neat tactical combat, where you control the party on a tactical map representing the environment you are fighting in, including walls and other obstacles.

A guy at Armchair Arcade is going to "blog" his way through Wizard's Crown (much like the Blogging Ultima guy has been doing this year).  Check it out -

Wow...that's awesome!  Seeing the scan of the entire manual reminded me of how I poured over it back in the day.  That was a great game!  I can't wait to see how he progresses.

I really, really loved "Demon's Winter".  But for some strange reason, I never finished it.  I can't remember why, either.
