The last time I replayed Thief Gold (~2-3 years or so ago), I actually had an easier time getting it to run win Win 7 than in XP. Go figure....

Really? You didn't even have to install a different codec to get the movies to play?

Thief: Deadly Shadows (the third game) has been available on Steam for ages, and goes on sale frequently during the big holiday type sales.

It was out last week, but it's now only $7.99 for two days. The post on GOG confused me, too.

The recently on sale Sierra Quest games were my first GOG buys. Things launch fine, but I can't seem to find any config screens, either GOG or circa 1980s. Well, I found one setup screen that let me choose "surface," OpenGL, DirectX, etc., but I don't think that's what I need.
Is it possible to make the games run in 4:3 aspect ratio, and with the old fashioned soundblaster + Roland MT-32 combo? Is there a shortcut to bring up the dosbox menus?

Yes, not really and no. You can change the graphics options. For example, say you're trying to change the settings for Wing Commander III. On the start menu, it would be GOG.com->Wing Commander III->Graphic Mode Setup. From there you can click on Advanced Settings then click 'Keep Aspect Ratio' to correct to 4:3. If you have an MT-32 hooked up to your computer, you can change the audio settings for the games that support the combo. You'll need to either edit resource.cfg for the Sierra game, or you can run the old Sierra install routine (INSTALL) under DosBox to change it. There's also a MT-32 emulator (named munt) if you want to search for it. ScummVM uses it, but DosBox decided not to incorporate it in their official builds.

Thanks a lot. The last time I used dosbox years ago I must've gotten a build that included an MT-32 emulator, since I thought that was just a part of the program. I actually do have my original MT-32 with me (see!) but hell if I know how I'd get it working with a modern system. As for the aspect ratio, I'm afraid I don't see an advanced settings button on my graphic mode setup screen. I'm about to go see if there are config files I can edit in the game's directory.

You just need something like this, then. Plug and play from there... If you have the original MT-32 (pre-update) you'll probably get buffer overflow errors on the MT-32, though... The file you need to edit is going to be named something like dosbox[game name here].conf in Program Files(x86)\GOG.com\[name of game bundle]\[name of game]

I have an old DX2/66 stashed away with both a Roland LAPC-1 and a SoundBlaster Pro in it, that was an awesome combination back in the day. I should probably dust it off, fire it up and see if everything still works.

I liked the game a lot. It's funny, though, that I remember the anticipation of Soulbringer more than the actual game itself. It was done by essentially the same development team that did Realms of the Haunting. After enjoying Realms so much, I couldn't wait for that team's next game. It didn't reach the Realms level, but it was a fun action RPG-ish game. It doesn't look like the graphics held up very well over time, but I may have to splurge on it, just for nostalgia's sake.

When Interplay released the double packs like Fallout 1/2, Soulbringer was bundled with Planescape: Torment. The comparison didn't do it any favors.

yikes!! the graphics, they make my eyes bleed! I got it just a few years after its release and I wasn't very impressed with the visuals then - wasn't much impressed with the gameplay either. IMO its no where near as good a game as the Janes Longbow series.

I had the two confused in my mind when I clicked on the pictures (also had Apache vs Havoc in there somewhere), so I also had to get a tissue for the eye blood.

The people at GoG tweeted that Thursday's new release will be Anachronox If it's the latest official version, you really need to find the unofficial patch one of the original coders did in his spare time after the studio closed. Fixed and added much goodness.
