Do these older games require any special modifications to run on a "modern" PC?
My wife has played KQ1 from aginteractive and seems to remember there being a few little glitches. I dl'd QforG2 from there and had something wrong, I don't remember what it was though.

Though it's not a bad idea to see if there are any mods that make it more palettable to modern eyes. Check the GOG forums for that stuff.

Check the GOG forums for that stuff. oh yeah, that goes without saying. you'd be surprised what folks have come up with to make some of the classics even better on today's machine. see TOEE and the circle of eight mods for examples.

There was a recent announcement that DOSBox will soon be emulating 3DFX Voodoo cards in software! Might this mean some exciting games could head to GOG?

Another bit of cool GOG news: If you were a member during the beta, they're giving you Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games for free. It will automatically be added to your account. If you already bought JA:DG, they'll give you something else.
Also, don't miss the Strategy First 30-50% off sale.

Considering they're actually remakes made for modern computers, they should be Ok.

Have you tried it? Considering your love of SRPGs I would think the JA games would be right up your alley.

Cool, didn't know about the JA gift - just saw it sitting on my game shelf. That Strategy 1st deal is awesome - too bad I already have every game on that that interests me. If anyone here enjoys combat flightsims I can't praise Commanche vs Hokum enough. There's a fan-made 1/2 GB download for it that reboots it in a big way and gives you the Apache vs Havoc content for free. At $2.99, you can't go wrong with that deal.

Where does one find said download? It's called the All Mods v1.2 patch, and it's hosted at this link at Simhq.com. It's 569 MB, so expect it to take a while.

Have you tried it? Considering your love of SRPGs I would think the JA games would be right up your alley. The genre isn't the problem, it's the setting. In all my years of gaming, I have yet to play a single game with a military setting that I enjoyed. Even cartoony depictions of military (i.e. Advance Wars) completely turn me off for some reason. Same reason I haven't tried that Valkyria Chronicles (?, think that's the name) SRPG on PSP. Replace commandos with elves and guns with crossbows, and I'd probably be all over it.

Dammit GOG, my backlog can't take any more of this! The number of games I've purchased in the last 3 weeks is ridiculous...finding any time to play them even more so.

Why? Is AOW: shadow magic much superior to AOW2? Just asking, because I've never played any of them, and it seems more likely to pick the latest one (which I thought was AOW2).

This is the one generally considered the "best" of the three AoW games, correct?

This is the one generally considered the "best" of the three AoW games, correct? I played all of the AOW games. IMO, shadow magic is the best. (I think it is by general concensus too, but not positive) They kept building on the same game, and shadow magic was the last build..

DL'ed AoW:SM last night, and it immediately reminded me why I had a hard time getting into the AoW games back in the day. Why is everything so gorram small? I'm squinting just to make out my units on the world map, most of whom simply blend right into the background. In the combat screen, I had an enemy surrounded behind a fence, and I couldn't even see him in order to make an attack.

Cool news on AoW:SM. I haven't played it in a long time. Not sure when I'll get a chance to play it, but it will be nice to get rid of the disc.

With just one more game to go, which is probably going to be Baldur's Gate 2, it sounds like they won't get around to NWN2 with its expansions. A shame. I was hoping to finally catch up with that game.

I am with you. I am having a hard time seeing in the games too. In TOEE I could barely see the loot on the floor, often hit the wrong guy with my Cure serious wounds spell, etc. 20 years ago I was a expert marksman with a M-16 rifle, able to hit a target at 300 meters with naked eye. Now I "over use" the Fireball spell on video games to make it easier to hit what I am aiming at hah. If I play New Vegas, my guy will specialize in bazookas and rocket launchers out of neccesaty, LOL I know, I know, time for Morgul to go get his glasses... 800x600 FTW. I hope I do not have your problem with Shadow Magic
