But this is an XP wrapped copy, instead of playing it through the hassles of DOSBox.

I haven't played any of the Empire Earth games, but wasn't III considered to be a real let down for the series?

The latest game to arrive is Enclave, which kind of supports the Old Games vs. Good Old Games trend. I tried to enjoy the Xbox version some year back - it was certainly a nice looking game, but the gameplay did nothing for me. Heres hoping they get back on track soon with another AAA title.

I vaguely recall playing the PC version and seem to remember enjoying it - up until I hit a game killing crash bug that I gave up waiting on a fix for.

How much is "markedly better"? If I had to rate the Xbox version I'd probably place it somewhere around 6.5/10 - fair but not good. I remember hearing the PC version was better, but is it really that much better; i.e. would you rate is as high as an 8/10?

I don't know how well it would hold up today, but graphics, control and, most importantly difficulty balance (not the least of which was the ability to save anywhere, instead of starting the level over) all made it superior.  I probaly would have given it an 8/10 in the day.

I'm hoping the RTS Act of War: Direct Action gets a GoG release some day. It won't work for most folks on 64-bit OS's (sometimes some system tweaking will get it to run, but not for me and many others). Since Atari's too lazy to recompile the .exe file to work with 64-bit OS's, it's up to GoG.

Really?  That's $3.75 a game, you bloody cheapskate.  Having said that, knowing GOG they probably will do a special before long.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending...) KQ8 doesn't come with the Telltale bundle.

yes, but the Circle of Eight fanmade mods not only fixed everything that was broken, but also adds an incredible amount of extra stuff

Yep it is till you install the Circle of Eight Modpack-http://www.co8.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=31 worked great for me.

Do these games come fully patched?

This almost seems to good to be true at these prices and XP/Vista ready.

Of the 2 games I've bought from GoG (Icewind Dale and ToEE), both were already patched.  The latest Circle of 8 mod installed perfectly, with no issues (5.9NC).  I have Vista and have to run the ToEE Front End X as an administrator for it launch correctly with the mod installed.

I played about an hour today, and so far so good.

They're usually patched, but a lot of games require extra mods to fully enjoy.  There are usually comments in the GOG forum when that's a good idea, though.  Folks are good at holding your hand for stuff like that there.
