My XBox just died

Not RROD, but an E74 error that I got after applying that latest software update that supposedly fixed HDMI issues.  This one was an Elite with the Falcon chipset.  It had been acting a little weird lately in that it wouldn't always read the disc in the drive when you turned it on.  You would have to eject the disc a couple of times to get it to read.  However, I am worried that the E74 error had nothing to do with that.  We will see what happens when I get my new one.

It looks like you don't get a coffin anymore like in the old days.  Now, you print out your label and put the console in a box to ship out to them.  It sucks because I am so hyped for Street Fighter IV.  Hopefully I get it back in time.

Some E74 errors just require you to reseat the video cables and hard drive.
I am not saying it fixes all of them, but something to try as it worked for me awhile back

Already tried it.  I even tried a different HDMI cable.  I tried powering it up without the hard drive at all.  Nothing is working.

i got a coffin sent to me yesterday for the elite that rrod'ed on sunday.  must not be every case.  i told her to send a box though, so that may be it.  good that ms is fixing it though as this isn't a rrod, so the warranty is  shorter.

my own went out today, so i'm crossing my fingers that it will be back soon.

I actually asked if they sent out coffins and she said they don't anymore and that this was a new procedure.  I bought an Elite less than a year ago, so it was still in warranty, though I think barely.

Edit - Actually, I just checked and they show this unit warrantied until January of 2010.  They must have  given me more than a year on it.

You can still get a box sent out to you if you do the warranty request online.  It is a smaller option kind of hidden at the bottom on the page.  They really seem to want you to use your own box now.  I just did mine three days ago and I got the empty box in the mail yesterday and sent it back the same day.

well that's odd.  i got one without any hassle from them.  arrived 3 days after i called them.

Well, I guess the upside of doing it this new way is that I get the process done quicker.  I just printed out the label, so I can take it to UPS tomorrow.

I think you mean 'Jasper'. For some reason I doubt they sent him one of those. Probably just someone else's refurbed older one.

Agreed.  The Jasper uses a lower amperage power supply.  So unless Grue sent his power brick in along with the 360 he would generally get back the same model he sent in.

It's an Elite and I assume it has Falcon since that is what mine had to begin with and they sent no power supply.
