Heh, it looks like Mr Generic Minecraft Dude might show up in the PC version of Super Meat Boy (as seen on the Twitter things of Team Meat and Notch).

Aaand now some asshats are targeting the Minecraft.net servers with a DDOS that is stopping anybody from registering, logging in or buying the game.  Some geniuses on 4chan are claiming responsibility and say they are doing it "to make Notch get to work" so he "provides the updates he promised his customers" or some crap.  Like the big update that isn't coming out until the end of the month and has been known about for a couple weeks?   retard

Apparently I fail to comprehend the language of MORAN.  slywink

I guess in their eyes, the month or so we've been waiting for any kind of update was too long.  Yeah, they know it is coming...they just don't approve of how long it is taking to come out.

True, but now they are hitting him where it hurts...financially.  If people can't get to the site, they can't buy the game.

Was just about to post about that very bit of irony from the wanna be hackers. Seriously? A common as dirt denial of service attack? On a game you like? Which only serves to delay the update that adds the content that you were attacking him for not putting out?

If one of these idiots actually took the time to try and actually make something, instead of just borrowing other's techniques for destruction, he might actually realize that creating new content and features for a game as large and complex as minecraft is a slow and time consuming process.

Back to minecraft itself, it's sounding like Notch is really starting to add more gameplay elements on top of the crafting. Of course the new block types help too. slywink

I'm ignoring the DDOSers, and from Notch's twitter updates, he's ignoring them also.

The October 31st update is really going to change the game.  From the updates Notch has given over the past couple of weeks, it sounds like he's going to be able to make all of the goals he's set.  I'm really looking forward to it!

Here's a Halloween update preview from PC Gamer.

There are the ghasts!  They're like the cacodemons in Doom.  You use obsidian to build the portals.  I definitely like the use of obsidian.

If it's like other major changes, you'll have to generate a new map (or at least explore the unknown on your current one) to get them.

PC Gamer and Indiegame.com have hands-on previews up of the Halloween update!

Both of them also have youtube videos showing off the construction of the gates and what the new "Slip" area looks like.

Torch change didn't get finished in time, but when the change eventually comes your existing placed torches should all get converted to permanent burning ones.

ran into an interesting bug:  I fired up one of my old saves, equipped myself (for some reason I had nothing in my inventory) and then I was exploring and mistakenly dug upwards into a section with a bunch of zombies.  after getting killed by the resulting avalanche of doom, I respawned and went to collect my stuff.  I found the cave I was in, but all the digging and torch placing was gone, as was any signs of zombies or any of my items.  going 'wtf?' I pitched myself off of a mountain for a quick respawn to base, and sure enough all my items were back there in the chest.  thinking that somehow all of my changes were gone I went down to the room where I jsut had put in 7 furnaces to make glass, and those were still there.  so some of my changes kept and others didn't.

on another note do the base graphics fhe grass and tree leaves looks a little different in color?  I wonder if he tweaked them for fall, unless it's the new biome system.

I know that there was a bug where when you died you wouldn't drop your items.  Notch fixed that in an emergency update this morning (which subsequently broke the armor system).  I died several times last night and lost the stuff I was carrying, but any changes in the world were still there when I went back.

and yeah, the colors are changed slightly for the different biomes.  I'm loving the update so far.  I just have to find diamond and a source of obsidian so I can get to the Hell world.

You know you can just grab lava and water and 'make' your own Obsidian, right? Yeah, it'll require you to make lava molds and such, but you don't have to get diamond (and then mine obsidian) to make said portal.

And I love that costume. Freaky and just plain cool at the same time.

In order to grab lava, one must locate a lava source block first.

Making lava molds?  Obsidian forms only when water comes in contact with non-moving lava.  In order to do this, you'd have to make a mold, put the bucket of lava in it, then pour the water.  Now you have one block of obsidian.  Then build another mold, get another bucket of lava, pour it in, put a bucket of water in to make another block of obsidian....  Wow, that would take a very long time.  It only took me about 15 minutes to find enough diamond to make a diamond pick axe.   I just need to locate enough sources of lava to make the obsidian.

just make sure you have 7 buckets when you go lava hunting.  I think they upped the difficulty pretty good, I've been running into big groups of monsters and have died more often from getting ambushed.

I know there's some known bugs with how the game creates portals coming back into the world. This can be fixed (at the moment) by making two portals about 10 blocks apart (in the normal land) and ten always using one of the two portals to go into not-Hell.

And sometimes collecting lava is quicker. Find a giant pool of the stuff? Each block is considered a spring.

I found another:

all of them go to the same spot, no matter where they are.  oh, and once you ge into not-hell I think lava collecting won't be an issue.
