My undying love for Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

Yes it's true.  I love Super Puzzle Fighter more than any game I have ever played.  Way back when the demo was on a Playstation demo disc, my friends and I stayed up all night taking turns playing our one round - loading time - loading time - another round.  I then purchased it for PC and played it nonstop for a long time.  Then I sold that, and just recently got another copy, this time of the PS1 version.

I love the game because, yeah, there's a certain element of luck involved, but there is strategy as well.  It's great when you're right about to lose, a handful of timed gems finally have counted down to 0, and your crush gem that you strategically placed creates a cascades of breaking blocks, turning the battle upside down.  It's the greatest puzzle game ever . . . and even possibly the best game ever (besides UT2k4 - that gives it a run for its money).

SO does anyone else play at all?  Have any experiences?  Before I cleared the Street Challenge mode . . . now I have only two more challenges remaining - both are secret character battles which are pretty tough.  Just thought I'd share my thoughts on perhaps the greatest game ever.

I have it on the Saturn (bestconsoleever) and love it.  I have it for the PC, but hate fishing out the CD to play it.  I would love to have it on the GBA, but $30?  Someday...

I happen to love Columns, and like the little people.  Pocket Fighter was great.  You can find that on the Saturn as well.  Home of the greatest 2D fighters among other things...

Although it's not like you need the box or manual, it'd just be easier to sell later though.

I tried it, after hearing so much gushing about it from everywhere, and really, really tried to like it.

Bottom line was I just couldn't get into it.  Almost all puzzle games have an element of luck, but usually I can find enough ways to get around that until it only becomes an element of the game.  With SPF2, I couldn't get that point.  Every time I lost, it was for lack of a crucial block.  Oh well.

SPFT2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I bought it when it first came out for the PS1, but two years ago I made the grave mistake of selling it on EBAY for $75. The moment it was gone I regretted selling it. I searched for the last two years in every used game store for it without success. But just two weeks ago, I found it used at a Blockbuster for only 7 bucks!    

The game does have some luck to it (like all puzzle games), but a skilled player can always overcome luck (at least in a two person game). Playing against the computer, though, misses out on half the fun; to really enjoy the game, it has to be played with friends. Now if only they would make an update of the game with an online mode.....
