So I exchanged my man card for Super Princess Peach for the Nintendo DS yesterday.  I went in, asked the employee if they had any copies in stock, said it was for my girlfriend, and left with a brand-spankin' new copy.

Let me first say this - girl power!

Now that that's taken care of, SPP is a very bright game, full of colors such as pink, light blue, and white along with a plethora of others.  The soundtrack is, well, bubbly.  So far I've completed six courses, and I must say that the music is very Mario-esque.  Which is, of course, just fine for this sort of title.  The first couple of songs were pretty standard-fare Mario songs, but ever since the soundtrack has been getting pretty strong.

The gameplay consists of Peach running around in a pink dress while handling her magical umbrella Perry - her faithful yellow buddy - and thwacking everything in sight.  It's quite fun.  The controls are nice, the game is easy to get into, and the objective of each level (save the three Toads) is clearly defined.

Along with this umbrella, Peach has some different abilities she can use by hitting buttons on the touchscreen.  Peach can get angry, engulfing herself with flames to burn bridges or take care of ice/snow.  She can also get happy, making a cyclone and flying up into the wonderful air.  She can also get sad and start crying, dousing flames and also causing her to run really fast.  And lastly she can get... I dunno, euphoric, and have her life go up.  The energy used for these abilities comes from your vibe meter, a wonderfully magically mechanism that comes in the forms of little jewels or by Perry swalling enemies.  And lemme tell you - Perry is ALWAYS HUNGRY.  VIBE METER JEWELS GET.

Along the way you can collect certain goodies such as puzzle pieces for a slideing-picture sort of minigame or some tunes for your music room music collection.  Inbetween levels you can go shopping for abilities, power-up enhancements, more levels for the three different mini-games, or other things.  Playing these mini-games are a nice break from just plowing through the main game.

I'm really having a blast with this title so far.  I'm not going to lie.  It's been relatively easy, true, but it's been very enjoyable and just fun to play.  I've probably put in close to 8 hours now just playing it yesterday and today, and I assume I'll probably beat it within the next 4 or so.  But it's been a very nice precursor sort of game to the Mario Bros. one coming out in May.

So I'd say if you're a fan of the Mario-type of platforming games and aren't scared by the sight of extremely pink things or girly stuff, then Princess Peach isn't too bad of a game.  Is it $35 good?  Eh.  Maybe for as younger early teenager female, yes.  For me, where I'm probably just going to Ebay it after beating it for about $30, it's been a very fun and worthwhile purchase.

Feel the vibes!

First DBT with the teddy bears and now this?

I knew as soon as Knighshade Dragon started wearing a tiara and flinging a pink feather boa around that it was game over ...

So this leaves me with one question .... how IS barbie horse adventures with the XBOX360 Backwards Compatibility?

But it's fun!  Though, I'm drawing the line here - I won't ever be picking up Britney's Dance Beat.

Right.  You'll be picking it up for your "girlfriend".  Tongue

Hey, depward, I'll back you up.  I, too, am enjoying Peach.  A lot of fun, if you like platformers (and I do).  I played through three levels just last night.  It's easier than a lot of platformers, so far, and I don't expect the difficulty to ramp up to insane proportions, but some of the reviews got me thinking this game is for 5 to 8 year old girls.  It's not.  Enjoyment can be had by anyone, as long as they are man enough to admit playing a game like this is fun (or if they're a young girl).

The ad campaign was pretty damn fun(ny).  If the game's half as fun as Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, it'll be worth picking up.

Beat it today.  Really enjoyed it.  The difficulty does ramp up a little bit the last two "levels" or so, but it's still relatively easy.

Overall I would give Super Princess Peach a solid B.  SPP has nice looking visuals, is easy but not overtly super easy, has fairly fun game mechanics, and replayability.  I trudged through it in a couple of days, but given how much time I put into it and can put into it after beating it, I would say it's about a 12-14 or so hour gaming experience.

And with that, I'm done with the violet font color.

...

Or am I?  Mwahaha!

I'll let the wife buy it and I'll play it secretely on the side

Really though, I can't imagine too many of us here not enjoying the game from a pure platformer experience. It looks like a solid game and from all accounts it is, I'm not enthused about the main character or the pink-ness of it all, but a good game is a good game right? ...  right?

Misreading the title as "Princess' Super Peach" I picked this up.  When I confirmed that it was not, in fact a Super Mario Brothers inspired pornographic adventure, and that I did indeed have a penis, I returned it.

I'm man enough (or maybe it's the opposite?) to buy it.  I went so far as to ask the hot chick (huh?) at Wal-Mart to unlock the case and let me check out the box.  In the end I just figured there wasn't enough there to warrant the full $35.  I'm sure it's a decent game, probably really fun for a short while, but not really enough to get me to buy it.  I'd love to rent or borrow it for a weekend.

At the end of the day most of us are grown men buying video games.  We've come a long way but there is still a stigma.  Plus, if you've come this far what's the difference between God of War and Super Princess Peach?  Are you worried the EB geeks are going to laugh at you?

QFT!

And for the record, I don't have the Kim Possible DS game...yet.  I do have all three on the GBA.  Last year I even went so far as to hang the little mini posters in my classroom.

Oddly I've never actually seen the KP cartoon...
