There aren't really any details yet, but 1Up has the news that Mistwalker's (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon) next game is for the Wii and is entitled The Last Story. Also, the Monolithsoft-developed (Xenosaga series, Baten Kaitos) Wii RPG Monado is now called Xenoblade and has a teaser website (with an awesome opening image) here. With Arc Rise Fantasia and (hopefully) Tales of Graces coming this year as well, it's nice to see the Wii finally get some more RPGs.

Why, oh WHY, did they not approve lost Odyssey II? How much did the first one even sell? To date, it is the best selling JRPG on the 360. The last numbers I saw were 305,000 in the US, but that was some time ago. Personally, I found Kaim to be one of the best main characters of this RPG generation. I got to play a character that is confident, doesn't whine, isn't emo, and shows genuine emotion.

I liked Lost Odyssey a ton, it was great.
Only bad thing is that most of the cutscenes dragged on way too long, but the gameplay was great.

Why, oh WHY, did they not approve lost Odyssey II? Even though I didn't push all the way through to the end of Lost Odyssey and thought it suffered from some pretty major issues, I would have really liked to see a sequel.

There's some new information about Xenoblade here and it sounds awesome. Xenoblade's background story starts thousands or maybe tens of thousands of years in the past as two great gods waged a great battle. In the end, all that was left of the two gods were two giant corpses. Xenoblade is set on top of those two corpses.
Because it's set on these human-like god figures, Xenoblade's world has a lot of height. "From the start of the project," said Takahashi, "we thought it would be interesting if we could make use of a vertical construction." Areas of the world correspond to parts of the gods' bodies (no jokes now!). You'll find a wide variety to the world, from different weather to varied monster ecology.
Residents of the two corpses are enemies. The player is on one god, which is home to a population of organic life. The other side of the world has mechanical life. Explaining how the story starts, Takahashi said, "It's simple -- the fight against mechanical life that threatens the peace of mankind."
Takahashi wanted to make a game where it was simply enjoyable to adventure...Takahashi said that he hopes players will simply walk around in search of special unexplored areas which have beautiful settings. You'll get experience for just finding these. Some areas include monsters that can't be defeated at first. Once you've powered your character up, you'll want to return to take on those beasts.

Xenoblade does sound really cool. I know it has already shown up on at least one of NOA's release lists so hopefully it is guaranteed to come out here but I don't trust NOA on these things.

They announced the game at last year's E3, and I assume they wouldn't have done that if a US release wasn't certain. There are some new screens here and here. It definitely looks a lot better than the first shots from E3.

Wow. The art direction in the game is fantastic! The cel shading is very reminiscent of DQVIII or Rogue Galaxy. Really looking forward to finding out more about the game.

I think it comes out in Japan in about a month so hopefully we'll get some more impressions soon.

Any word on these at E3? I was hoping/expecting at least a release date or timeframe for Xenoblade since it's released in Japan now.

It doesn't look like Xenoblade is at E3. I'm guessing that since they debuted it at last year's E3, they're going with their standard policy of announcing a game and then not mentioning it again until a few months before release.

I'm going to be do my best not to be too pessimistic. Given their focus on core gamers at E3 I expected at least some confirmation that Xenoblade would be coming.

I can't imagine why they'd have announced it at last year's E3 if they didn't plan all along to localize it, and I don't see why they'd change their plans. This might mean that they don't plan to release it this year, though

This might mean that they don't plan to release it this year, though I just don't trust Nintendo on localization stuff. I'm sure we'll get it (especially since Xenoblade seems heavily influenced by Western RPGs and MMOs) but until it's given a date I'll be worried.
