not surprising, but hopefully they revamp the combat portions.  I never understood why it was easier to grab a pistol from a cop that a shotgun or MP5, which was what always got me killed.

I soooo wanted to like this one, but always getting stuck and having to refer to walkthroughs continuously ruined it for me.  If the new one has less head-scratching for me,  I will no doubt love it.  But if most did not have that problem then they won't 'fix' that and again I will be disappointed.   Fingers crossed.

Tweeting in response to this very story Cousins said: "It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE."

When contacted by Eurogamer on this latest development EA declined to comment.

Let's just hope there's no pressure to keep shooter elements in the game.

Quote
DICE, an award-winning studio of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) and developer of the blockbuster Battlefield™ franchise, today announced that fan-favorite Mirror’s Edge™ is in early stages of development. Mirror’s Edge was first introduced in 2008 and fans quickly elevated the game’s heroine “Faith” into a videogame icon. Gamers and critics worldwide praised its unique characters, highly stylized world and fresh take on first person action adventure. The new Mirror’s Edge reboots the franchise for the next generation with advanced visuals and an all-new origin story for Faith. Powered by DICE’s proprietary Frostbite™ technology, the game will be heading to Xbox One®, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®4, and PC.

Looks like it's just called Mirror's Edge?

Anyway, glad they seem to have not changed the gameplay significantly.

Well, I'm hoping they have removed the propensity for using guns from the game.

There's sequences in Mirror's Edge that while it does not force you to use guns, the studio basically came out and said that EA wanted them to put in scenarios where guns and killing would make it more playable so that action gamers would know what to do. That killed the flow of a lot of later sequences if you wanted to play to the character and not use them.

True.  In my mind, I've already cut those sections out and don't count them as part of the basic gameplay.

I tried avoiding guns, but there were definitely times where it would have been easier to proceed by blasting everything.

Pushed back to June 7th.

It's a bit of a bummer, given why:

Quote
To support the Social Play features, we are using a brand new online technology. We also want to make sure we have the opportunity and time to address player feedback from the Closed Beta. That is why we will give ourselves a bit more time to perfect the game, with a new release date for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst of June 7th (NA) and June 9th (EU).

On the plus side, it does give me time with Homefront, assuming it isn't garbage.

I had been excited about this but then I watched the Giant Bomb Unfinished video for this and it really convinced me not to get it.

It seems like they didn't really learn many lessons from the first game or from the improvements that something like Dying Light which had great first person parkour.

EA seems to be barely functioning in terms of their creativity.

I saw one preview video and knew I didn't want it due to the characters alone. As soon as the idiot with the night shades and no personality showed up I was out.

That said, Dying Light isn't the best thing to look at since most of its free running is automated. ME aimed for more skill-based and direct control. If they were to tone down combat, which they didn't do, then they need keep in some more manual elements.

That may be true, but the parkour in DL was fun and made for a much better game than either of the two Dead Island games.

I haven't put in a pre order for it and probably won't until I see a much better trailer.  That GB video was rough and clearly showed an early build, if the bugs were any indication.
