http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1743

It's the same trailer you've seen before (I actually spotted a couple new camera angles), but now running at a smooth framerate, showcasing a few more sparks, and more crumbling walls.

One of my most favorite trailers ever, now made even better with the smooth framerate.

And even if you're not a MGS fan, or own a PS-Trip, watch the last couple of minutes.  It is glorious.

Looks like they fixed up the lighting too, it's subtle, but the lighting is much improved.

Umm, nice CGI, but it did nothing to make me actually desire to play the game.

Ain't CGI- MGS cinemas are always in-engine, real time.  That's why the previous trailer actually exhibited slowdown.

I think most people know what they are getting with Metal Gear games by now.  Some love them, some hate them.  If you are a fan of the franchise I could see how that trailer would get you excited to play the game.

I am not a Metal Gear fan either.  No matter how amazing that trailers looks.  I know what I would be getting, so I will not be buying the game.  Fool me once shame on you.  Fool me twice shame on me.

I understand that many people love these games/movies.  I'm just not one of them.

Me:  Looks good, I'll probably rent it.
Snake:  Rent it?
Me:  Yeah, Metal Gear games just arent that fun to me anymore and the story lines are so bizzare.
Snake:  Bizzare storylines?
Me:  Yeah, I mean vampires on an oil rig?
Snake:  Vampires.... on an oil rig??!
Me: Well yeah, whats up with that?
Snake:  Whats up with that?
Me:  You know, I dont think I am even going to rent this now.
Snake:  Do you believe love can bloom on the battlefield?
Me:  Huh?
Snake:  They dont call me Snake Eater for nothing....

Why?  I doubt it's going to convert anyone who doesn't like the series and the story will be relying heavily on the plots from six games so it isn't going to be very accessible either.

I agree with denongizer- by this point I think people know whether they love or hate the series and I can't see MGS4 converting anyone who hasn't liked at least one of the previous installments,.

For what it's worth I loved Metal Gear Solid on the PS1.  It's probably my favorite PS1 game.  For whatever reasons Kojima lost me with Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater. I now have no interest in Guns of the Patriots.  I did enjoy the 2 PSP card-based games, and I am still working my way through Acid 2.  I have stayed far away from Portable Ops though.

Hopefully they'll find some way to edit out the subplots (or just the whole thing) from MGS2.

Now, I loved MGS1, don't get me wrong (especially the Gamecube remake), but the series as a whole hasn't really impressed me at all since MGS1.

Well it's a direct sequel to MGS2 and will feature many aspects from it (Patriots, Raiden, Vamp, Olga and her baby, Liquid Ocelot, etc).  I don't expect the tone to be as wacked out as MGS2 though.  Kojima took a lot of fans' criticism to heart in MGS3 (more straightforward story, larger gameplay to cutscene ratio, much, much fewer mandatory codecs, having "a" Snake back as lead character, etc) and even had a sense of humor about it with the whole Raikovich subplot but he isn't going to ignore MGS2 either.

I get not liking and even hating MGS2 (though I personally love it with all my heart) but I'm curious what was so different about MGS1 that was never rekindled with the rest of the series, especially Snake Eater which is by far the best game in the series IMO.

I love how at the end of it the text proclaims "RAIDEN'S RETURN!" like that's a victory for gamers. retard

I'll confess that watching him bring the pain to all those robots looked about as badass a thing as I've seen. But here's my problem with the MGS series that's only grown worse with each successive game: 20 minutes of cut scene followed by 10 minutes of play followed by 20 minutes of cutscene. Christ, I finished the actual game play of MGS3 at 8:15 one night and the game itself wasn't over until 8:50. Anyone else see a problem with that? If this were an anime and/or a full length film I'd absolutely watch it and love it. But don't show me a movie then ask me to push buttons for 10 minutes before returning to the movie. That's silly.

The last two hours of playtime (and watching the cinematic) was about the coolest thing ever in MGS3.

Spoiler for Hiden:
That part with Ocelot on the plane was fantastic - and there's three different things that can happen!

MGS3 has, by far, the largest ratio of gameplay to cutscenes in the series.  It is by no means in any way shape or form worse than MGS2. The only real segments are bad about it are the prologue (which is altogether not very good and not representative of the rest of the game) and the finale (which has plenty of awesomeness inside and outside cutscenes).

Yeah, the ending is long but I have zero problem with it when it's good (as in MGS3 and most Final Fantasy endings which can go on for upwards of a half hour or more).   The ending to Star Ocean 3 annoyed me though because it went on that long but wasn't very interesting (great game otherwise though).

I don't have a problem with that at all...but personally, I've always been a fan of cutscenes and FMVs in any video game.  as long as they have good production values

It's likely because they use cow brains and other parts to control them.  The legs are obviously fleshy, and they poop weird green stuff.  In one scene the gear charges a group of men, very bull-like.

They'll probably tie it in with some conspiracy involving mad cow disease not being a disease, but a nano experiment used to turn cow brains into weapon control platforms.  Tongue
