I'm going to start playing this game again (and maybe getting the expansion sometime soon) and I can't recall which were the best mods for the game. Any suggestions?

Only one I have used is the Stainless Steel one.  It added a Knights Templer faction amongst other things.  It was quite good.

expansion is like 13 bucks at target.  check on the clearance display that's usually near electronics/toys.

If you get Kingdoms, try Deus Lo Vult.

So what do the various "good" mods do?

That is a great question. I don't know why I didn't ask it from the get go.

They usually make the game harder and/or more historically accurate.

alrighty then, i'll take a look either monday or wednesday at lunch (it's about time for me to scour their clearance shelf for new deals anyway).  as for the board game group, i'll put you back on the group email list...so you can ignore us again, making zarathud cry and seppe turn to religion for answers as to what he did wrong to make you hate him so.

I have to admit a weakness of mine.

I love the game, but a part of me wishes the movement was more like the first, where it's done Risk-style (whatever units are in a region engage in the battles, instead of clumping individual armies within regions).  I'm guessing this is something that hasn't been explored by the realism crowd, eh?

alas ed, my "go to Target" outside Northbrook was out of stock on the expansion.  A clerk said they might get some from a nearby store as part of some inventory shuffling they do every few weeks, so i'll check back.

If your local target has it, wait at least a few more days.  They drop the prices on that stuff pretty frequently.

It certainly does add an insane amount.  And it rocks.

Okay, my Google Fu failed me.

Does anyone know of a mod where the strategic map movement has been changed to province-/region-based?  I've come to realize that RTW and M2 cause just a tiny bit too much micromanagement for my tastes, realism be damned.

No such mod exists, as that would take away from the whole point of the new strategic map.  And it really couldn't work.  You move into a region - are you attacking the city, the fort defending the choke point, the band of rebels, or which of the three enemy armies in the province?  See my point?
