looks like it might be happening even with the lackluster reception of the first game in the reboot.

I guess they have to keep trying, but I just don't think they can make a game that will crack that upper tier of CoD, Halo and Gears like they wish Medal of Honor would. Battlefield has a better chance IMO.

looks like the official title is going to be Medal of Honor: Warfighter.  I guess you just won't be as Advanced as another franchise.

5 million sounds impressive on paper, but that's presumably on all 3 platforms. COD:MW3 supposedly sold 6.5M on opening day in the US and UK alone, and more than 9M copies in one month. Don't know how you compete with that ravenous demand for a competing franchise. Or if you even try.

imho, if they throw away any notion of Realism (which simply doesn't sell in these military shooters anymore), and just go for over the top sensationalism, then ... it still won't matter cause the MoH franchise name probably died in most gamers' eyes around the time of the Too Many MOHAA expansions, and with MOH: Pacific Assault and MOH: Airborne. So I guess they might as well stay in this "pseudo-realistic" niche and try to carve out a separate kind of appeal.

The game buying masses don't care about MoH anymore, and just see them as chasing CoD and Battlefield. Even hiring DICE to handle MOH's multiplayer didn't seem to matter. Me thinks EA waited too long to respond to COD:MW's initial success.

I doubt MOH will ever again be the kind of Big Release game folks que up for and general media covers as a Phenomenon. Which seems a shame, given that MOHAA's Omaha Beach sequence probably set the stage for military shooters as a genre. But sometimes the game that Starts a genre isn't the one that takes it over.

Just because its not matching COD doesn't mean its not worth doing. 5 million still means a big pile of cash, and another game.

While I've pretty much hung up my virtual rifle and holsters due to worsening FPS motion sickness issues, heard very good things bout what Danger Close is doing with this. Here's an Aussie blog's take (from a guy who went in with no interest in Warfighter and came out very excited about it):

http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/games/blogs/screenplay/split-screen-e3-overview-part-3-20120613-208o2.html
Quote
Medal of Honor: Warfighter - I had no interest in this title when E3 began, and only tried it out so I could tell my readers that I had done my duty and given it a go. How very wrong I was. Warfighter was one of the best games I played during the whole three day show.

While it is essentially just another current-day military shooter, the gameplay elements introduced by developer Danger Close make it feel like something totally new.

First, the multiplayer features a collection of "tier one" troops from around the world, including Australia's SASR and US Navy Seals. Each troop type has different weapons and gear, and plays a different role on the field.

The new fireteam feature is just amazing. Players are assigned into pairs, with extra benefits for co-ordinating with each other, watching each other's backs, and getting revenge when their partner is killed. It is hard to explain just how transformative this feature is.

While I am usually a single-player kind of guy, Warfighter is one game that will definitely tempt me online.

Apparently EA is not sending out review copies early, so my spider sense is tingling.  Luckily Gamefly shipped me a copy for the 360, so I figure I'll do the same thing I did with the last one-  win it in a day or so and then send it back, saving myself 60 bucks.

I actually played the MP quite a bit in the 2010 version. I found it really fun. The MP beta of this version was promising, so hopefully I'll get some good playtime out of both sides.

Of course Black Ops 2 and Halo 4 are coming soon, but, considering that I rarely see people to play mp with on my friend's list these days, I expect I'll still spend a fair amount of time with MOH.

•Increased the accuracy of server-side aiming prediction.
•Fixed an issue with “Fall Back” spawning to improve its behavior.
•Fixed spawn type changing to Buddy Spawn automatically when it is not supposed to.
•Call in a Blackhawk for the losing team if they are getting dominated in Sector Control.

•Fixed issue with gap between where the LTLM can’t fire and where it indicates the target is too close.
•Reduced the damage/range of the Demolition’s SMGs (Scar PDW, HK 416c, Suchka), as they were overpowered.
•Made switching between primary and secondary weapons much more responsive.

How the hell did that pass certification?

I think the main focus was getting it in stores before CoD and Halo and then using a day one patch to put the final polish on it.  Which explains not sending advance review copies, too.

Normally, that's a bad sign for games, but it might not be for this.  Or it could still be a terrible rush job that isn't ready even with the patch.

I know I won't get it until next week now.

Coerced? Hmph. More like "I'm having fun with this!" Kato says, 'I ordered it!'   nod

Spent 1 1/2 hours in mp tonight, about the same on sp this morning after work. Enjoying it so far.

The MP is quite fast paced, without getting as annoying (so far) as COD has been for me lately. I will say I miss the larger maps though. The ones they have are pretty complex though.

You really notice when you have a fireteam buddy that is worth a crap.

Haven't touched MP yet, but SP is standard fare.

Respawning enemies... check
Check point system... check
Homing Grenade spam.... check
Weak Story... Check

I am having fun, but I think these types of shooters are starting to wear on me.  Btw, this games cover system SUCKS.   If the game would put you in 3rd person while in cover would make it serviceable, but leaving you in first person doesn't work well at all

Maybe I'm finding it difficult to use... holding down LB and then poking out to shoot is just awkward for me I guess.  I'll pop into MP when I see you online tonight

Like I said, I liked the previous MOH a fair bit. It feels like a cross between COD and BF3.

I'll take a look at the reviews at work tonight, see if I can tell exactly what they don't like that I do like, or that just doesn't bother me.

random thoughts:

I have to say SP isn't very 'wow' yet, and I'me about halfway through.  I agree with the reviews-  it's really disjointed.  one minute you're so many days ago, then you're a terrorist, then blam 2 weeks ago, then... etc etc.

had to bump up the brightness; first game I've had to do that for in a while.  graphics look decent though.

maybe they should have called this Medal of Honor: Breachfighter.  I do find it humorous that kicking the door in is faster than the first 3 or 4 upgrades.  one kick vs a few tomahawk hits, a couple of shotgun shots or whacking the lock with a crowbar.

grenades suck.  they take too long to explode and the enemy is usually gone from the area.  I've even had a couple not go off.

glad I rented this instead of paying for it.

Like I said, I liked the previous MOH a fair bit. It feels like a cross between COD and BF3.

I'll take a look at the reviews at work tonight, see if I can tell exactly what they don't like that I do like, or that just doesn't bother me.

I was just giving you a hard time.

I liked the last one, too, and I'm bummed it's not what it could be.

I only skimmed the reviews, but nothing jumped out at me as deserving that low a score, really.  Mostly it's just not great, and it should be.

I'd say that the SP is pretty average. It isn't as good as the previous game. (based on the 3 missions I've done so far) If someone is interested solely, or primarily, in the SP, I would have to say rent or wait until really cheap.

The MP is pretty good fun so far. I wish they had kept the 12v12 and slightly larger maps, but, very good the way it is at the moment. I may prefer the hardcore to the standard... but, that is a toss-up right now.

Playing terminator as a demolitions class with your ballistic armor on is great. I just unlocked access to the AA-12, so I'll have to try that for a bit. I have a feeling that it won't fit my playstyle very well.

I do like that the guns feel distinct. So far I haven't found a gun that is ridiculously better than any other. They all have their quirks, and it comes down to personal preference more than anything.

I've posted up my review here.  I didn't savage it like some folks did.  I think there is a product here, but it's buried under the bug infestation.  I think a few patches could make this serviceable.   The fractured storyline...well...not so much.  I see what they were trying to do - gives us a taste of the real world ops that Tier 1's handle, but it just comes across like "Hey, we should throw in X!" instead of a coherent thing.  The people complaining about the 'bad guy' in the game - well...let me tell you that in the real world, the bad guys aren't Kefka.  They hate America and what we stand for, and they are somewhat interchangeable after that point.

I just hit the part where it picks up the cutscene from the end of the first game, so now I'm confused as to when events in this one are taking place in regards to the first game.

sounds like this one is a pass for most people.  reviews have been hash across the board, and there isn't much time before the bigger games hit.

guess I'll wait for the next one.
