According to rumors from the latest EGM, Max Payne 3 is in the works. They also have rumors regarding the next Halo, Rock Band 2, and a GTA MMO.

I've heard of Max Payne 3 rumors before, if it comes out it would be the first in the series that I played on a console. The first two on console had sucktastic controls.

I would be very IN on this, if done right. I'm sure it's to tie in with the upcoming movie.

+ The sun rose with practiced bravado. Played the first on pc. It's in my top 10 all time (I think)- and I'm still using the mouse bad (OMG HARDKORE!) Played the 2nd on console. Awesome.

Hmm, Remedy aren't exactly known for being punctual with their games. Hopefully trying to ship alongside a movie (if that's their intention) doens't totally screw it up.

I thought both 1 and 2 were excellent games. I particularily loved the comic book style panels they used to advance the story. Considering how shooters have advanced since MP2, it will be interesting to see what features they focus on for 3; i.e strong SP campaign, online multiplay, online/offline co-op play, etc..

They better goddamned focus on a strong SP campaign. That's what made the first two SO good. And if it's not Remedy, who's making this? I hope it's not a crappy videogame-to-movie-to-videogame cash-in. That'll ruin the franchise, greedy morons.

GameInformer will have a preview in their next issue. Set in Sao Palo, Brazil, featuring a bald Max, the game will include dealing with a painkiller addiction which affects gameplay, destructible environments, day/night cycle, new weapons, multiplayer, a cover system, and of course bullet time.

Why would a Max Payne game need a day/night cycle? Are they trying to make it into an open world game?

I disagree. One of the two previous games' main strenghts were how focused and cinematic they were (for the time). Max Payne would become too much like GTA if they opened it up like that, and that would just lead to a lack of focus in this case.

Hot climate, need for meds that affects gameplay, day/night cycle, etc...where have I heard that before? This game'll be a far cry from whatever that one was.

I can hear Max Payne's inner monologue already: "Outside the sun was shining, mocking the dark, wet hole where my heart used to be." "Pale blue waves crashed against the shore in a desperate attempt to escape the monotony of the ocean, but were pulled back within moments. The deathly white sand would have none of it." Man, noir is so easy to write, yet it always becomes so cheesy. I can't wait.

got the latest Game Informer:
Game takes place in Sao Paulo Brazil, not NYC this time.
they mention levels will take place in both day and night, so that may be where the day/night cycle comes in.
will have a cover system, including human shields.
will use the RAGE engine and NaturalMotion Euphoria.

After reading the GI preview, it looks like the only thing this game has in common with the first two is that it's a third-person shooter with bullet-time. The gameplay sounds very similar to Stranglehold, which was fun, but I think trying to tie such a dissimilar game to the Max Payne series is going to put off more people than it attracts.

I only played the Stranglehold demo but it didn't seem all that dissimilar from Max Payne.

I actually quit playing Stranglehold because if I want to play Max Payn I'll fire up Max Payne I need to re-read the article when I get home because I cannot remember if they said the graphic novel 'cutscenes' were still going to be used. if they're not there then it definitely won't be a day one purchase.

I loved the first one, never played the second. Played 1 on PC. Nothing like diving past a doorway and stitching four rounds up through the jaw of a baddy that came to investigate why the door opened.

I only played the Stranglehold demo but it didn't seem all that dissimilar from Max Payne. It was similar, but there were a few things in the MP3 preview (sliding down a roof and shooting several enemies at once in slo-mo, and zoom-in shots to watch bullets hitting enemies) that sounded just like Stranglehold.

and they are changing the voice of Max. I must have missed that in the article. it doesn't make sense- sure, Max is older but unless they're going alot older they should use James McCaffrey, who I'm sure has also aged since the last game. unless he's a vampire and hasn't aged.

I just posted this in the PC thread, but I guess it can go here as well: Rockstar put up part 1 of a design and technology documentary series about Max Payne 3. This one is about targeting and shooting, movement and animation, bullet time and enemy reactions. While the voice-over provides a very...PBS flavor to the video, it still features nearly 4 minutes of shooting guys that looks very much like the Max Payne we know and love. As for the voice of Max Payne mentioned above, there is a quick bit of him talking in this video and it sounds like the same guy to me. Oh, and it still looks like McCaffrey is credited on IMDB.

Me too then!! ;-)
Which looks great yeah - I'm still concerned about the noir feel of the game which so far seems to be entirely missing. Honestly, they seem to be taken this in the direction of games like Mafia 2, GTA and Saints row instead of keeping what was the USP of Max Payne - the gritty noir story telling, on top of the technological awesomeness of things like bullettime and great graphics.

Max Payne 3 delayednew dates Console versionMay 15th-North America May 18th-Internationally PC VersionMay 29th-North America June 1st-Internationally strange because just yesterday they were 'showing off' the pre-order bonuses for the game from the various retailers 360A.orgFirst up is the Cemetery Multiplayer Map, which is also available to pre-order from GameStop in North America. In Europe, you can get it from GameStop (DE/ES) too and it's available from GAME or Gamestation in the UK and EB Games in Australia. Here's a picture of the map: The second pre-order bonus up for grabs is the Silent Killer Multiplayer Loadout Pack, which gives you the Light Anti-Tank Weapon, Listening Device to amplify your hearing during battle, and the Slippery Character Burst ability for escaping from sticky situations unscathed. You can get the loadout pack from Tesco in the UK, GAME in Australia and Amazon and Fnac in Germany and Spain respectively. (i think that means to say France) And the final multiplayer pre-order incentive is pretty self-explanatory. You'll get a code for the first paid multiplayer DLC pack for free when it drops. No details have been revealed on what this multiplayer pack will be, but if it's paid DLC, chances are it'll be fairly substantial, but you'll have to wait for it to release. You can snap up this pre-order bonus from Play in the UK, EB Games in Australia, GamesOnly (AT), WOG (CH) and GAME (ES). Expect the same deals for North America...GAME=Gamestop etc

None of that looks like a Max Payne game to me. The first pic looks like something out of Red Dead redemption, and the last two look like Army of Two knockoffs.

If they were rescheduling all of the releases, why the hell couldn't they have made all versions the same day? How much do you want to bet they delay the PC release at the last minute?
