Anyways - loving the game...its just so much me! Only thing I'm missing is teammember bantering...there's really ...nothing. This leads to lack of personality in my teammembers, something that DA could have shown them how to include in spades.

I noticed this as well. It makes the decision on which team members to bring along on a mission trivial, as they end up being pretty much nothing but a set of mobile combat abilities. They will once in a rare while interject a conversation, but not often enough for it to really matter.

In general that is true, but sometimes they do say things that are hilarious.  I took Zaeed and Grunt to the Jack mission, and it was hilarious.

Spoiler for Hiden:
When Jack was released and the mechs moved on her, Grunt said "I gotta see this!" and said something along the same lines as we moved down the stairs to the level she was on.  I just about died laughing.

i ran into a part where doing paragon was actually a renegade thing in the end. BIOWARE YOU ARE GETTING IT!!! grats on finally understanding how to do this. too bad it's the first time and probably the last time in the entire game.

late edit:i forgot to mention that PC version, at least, has some serious clipping issues. I have gotten stuck on the random environment for no reason. Once I walked out a door and was immediately warped to the left and stuck on seemingly nothing. that time i couldn't get myself free and resulted in reverting a save 20 mins ago. freakin bs. it wouldn't be so bad but this happens quite frequently, but usually i dont get stuck like this.

I got stuck twice last night on random environment. One time I was somehow about 30 feet in the air after being near a fragile crate when it broke... and the other time I got stuck after having taken cover near a corner in the environment. I couldn't move from that corner.

Other than those two times last night though it's been smooth sailing on the 360 version.

I was moving across the bridge during the Archangel mission and suddenly ended up on top of one of the bridge supports.    I couldn't get down and ended up restarting that mission.  Thankfully it was mere seconds from the the mission start save point.

Regarding scanning, I have hundreds of thousands of units of everything except platinum.  That's the one mineral I always seem to be short on when upgrade time rolls around.

Can someone spoil the location for the fast scanning upgrade? Wherever it is, that's where I want to go first.

Yes, if you go to the tech lab in your ship it's one of the initial upgrades that you can have done. It helps a bit.

I wish that were true. What missions had you done before checking for the upgrades.

I have this via gamefly, so if it's part of the network DLC, then disregard this.

I've enjoyed all of the dossier missions so far, with Archangel and Jack being my favorites.

I've been really enjoying playing a sentinel.  The designers did a great job evolving the class into something fun to play.  I can rip down shields with Overload, hurt biotics and high armor targets with Warp, push charging krogans away or freeze them, and even assault right into enemy lines and let my tech shield blast them.  He doesn't have any cool weapon powers, but the tech/biotic mix is incredibly helpful.  I tried playing a vanguard, and while it seemed fun, the class was too suicidal for me.  I like my big shiny magic shield too much.

I got to play last night - for the 3rd night in a row! That is something amazing with two kids and a wife who wants to spend time with me.

I am still a bit fuzzy on the tech upgrade stuff.  I picked up some "sub zero" (or whatever it is called) and upgraded one thing - then I couldn't upgrade anything else.  However I have no idea how much zero stuff I had or how much each research thing used so I didn't feel like I made very informed choices.

I wish they would have played X-com a few more times to learn how to do a basic research tree since they wanted to have it in the game.

I did the Convict and Archangel missions back to back last night.  Most fun I've had gaming in long time.   thumbsup  I still completely suck at the shooty parts, but Easy mode makes them at least somewhat doable.

Couple questions:  Do the mission difficulties scale to your character's level?  I'm trying to play ME2 guide-free, and don't want to stumble into one that is designed for higher level groups.  Also, I show some upgrades available for my weapons, but they all say I can't access them until I get "one more level 1 Assault Rifle damage upgrades, etc. etc...".  Does that mean I missed the lower-level upgrades somewhere along the line and need to backtrack for them?  Or is that just their way of locking off the higher tier upgrades until later in the game?

No that's just their way of preventing you from upgrading it to max right away.  You need to find another upgrade module somewhere else in the world, then you can go back and buy the next level.

Just beat it, and wow what a game. Each loyalty mission was great (Mordin's was amazing), the finale was crazy, and the end is... icon_eek

Spoiler for Hiden:
Not sure how I feel about the last boss...I can't decide if he really fits in what I thought was the Mass Effect universe.

That said, my Shepard was 28 when I finished, and while I originally thought Adepts were underpowered, wow, they become insanely strong again toward the end (just like all mage classes in Bioware games). Shockwave + Singularity = Funsauce.

Interesting point...the game has an epilogue! After you get the end credits, go talk to your crew. They each have comments on your choices and what what down, plus each have a great development story to help finalize ME2 in their eyes, not just yours.

Also if you play the game are Hardcore, when you first meet your Quarian friend, you find a unique Geth rifle that makes the game alot easier. I assume its there to help with Insanity (weapons DO carry over, upgrades however dont).

You could just finish this play through and then start over.  icon_wink

That's what I did with ME1 and plan on doing with ME2.

BTW, is there a limit on how many new games you can start with the ME1 save?  I had started one game with the default looking Shepard just to see the game intro and such, then started another with a customized Shepard, but he looked like shit when outside of the character editor and it didn't give me the option to import the save the 3rd time around.  Right now, I'm playing without the import, but I don't want to try and start over since I've already done a lot.  I thought I'd give it a shot on my second playthrough.  Thoughts?

To help clear some confusion about why Loyalty quests and upgrades exist:

Spoiler for Hiden:
The ending gauntlet has many progression checks that punish and reward you. Basically, if you don't want everyone dead at the end of the game, you have to have done everyone's loyalty quest, and upgraded the Normandy to full.

Following up:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Normandy having Shields, Guns and Armor. For each you don't, you lose 1 person. Tech Check, Squad Leader, Biotic, Escort, Squad Leader 2, and final party are all checks that ask you to select a party member to do a specific task to survive the suicide mission. If they aren't loyal, they will die, and even when loyal, some just can't perform the task. Trick is read their bio and listen to the mission, usually there is some text that overlaps showing you they are perfect for it.

I made it through with no deaths, using Tali, Garrus, Samara, Jacob, Garrus...with Grunt & Legion with me at the end. Each was loyal, all made it. It seems there are other combos, but its very easy to have Mordin killed. Good luck!

I'm the kind of player who will quicksave after almost every corner. Mass Effect 2 accommodates this nicely by not slowing down or stopping at all while it saves.

I hear what you're saying, but as a game designer you cannot expect mass random casual gamers to save every corner.

I played about five hours as a Vanguard but went back and restarted as an Infiltrator (which is what I played in ME1).  I always tend to gravitate toward stealth, tech-y style gameplay so I should have just trusted my instincts and stuck with Infiltrator but the Vanguard looked really cool.  And it was but it just didn't fit in with my personal playstyle.

I miss the Damping tech power from ME1.  Shutting down biotics and other tech users was both fun and really helpful.  I'm not aware of a comparable power in ME2.

I love my Vanguard. Tongue

Why do I love him you ask? Simple - he's a jack of all trades more or less (just not in weapons). Want to knock somebody out of cover, or get a line of guys charging your way? Shockwave. Need to get somebody out of cover? Pull. Need to do damage? Fire ammo (very nasty at full upgrade BTW). Slow them down? Ice ammo.

And I personally love the teleport/charge move you get. Tons of fun if your target is in the air thanks to an ally Pull (they'll just go flying), or as a desperation move if your shields are down (as it gives you a temp shield boost based on a percentage of your max shields). It can also kill cover for your opponents as you're suddenly in their back lines.

While on principle I dont like DLC's, I think its a great way to enhance games over times. I mean, they have the engine, so its a lot easier to add new adventures than me having to wait for them to make an entire new game

okay i got this today and have been playing for about 6-7 hrs

the citadel was quite confusing at first,as i didn't know my way around and the map isn't that helpful, especially with the different floors there are

i had to reload an old save when my team kept shooting at the wall and i couldn't progress until the enemy which was IN the wall was dead

i saw Helena Blake at Omega, who i told to go straight in a side quest in Mass Effect 1

just got the quirky doctor and Archangel i have it on Normal, and i found the Archangel mission, especially nearer to the end really knocked up in difficulty, but i made it through

i smiled when one of the engineers on the Normandy was Scottish

i have been scanning a few planets as well for resources...not that keen on that,LOL..especially having to leave the system i am in and go to a system where it has a place i can buy fuel and probes(although i haven't seen my fuel go down yet)

The cloak was genius. Sniping in ME1 wasn't all that useful. Small maps, fast enemies with good aim. Throwing the cloak in to the mix actually allows you to set up those shots and looks sweet too.

Every class really has something cool to offer. Makes deciding which to use painful.
