so live decided to send me a message (i think the exact sender was "xbox live" or some such) that had a code which i can redeem at the marketplace, because im an "elite member" - i think that was the term

is this legit or some sort of odd phishing thing?  the message was send to my inbox on live, accessed and read via the console itself.  before i submit an unsolicited marketplace code i figured id ask here...

No idea... but not sure how entering a code could hurt you...

Don't quote me on this, but I think it might be a code for a free helmet for the 10 year anniversary.

nor am i, but i distinctly remember an event from several years back about forwarding beta invites via messages that did get a few people hacked

it may have been for battlefield - i dont remember the specifics but i know it involved live messages so i was doubly concerned with an actual marketplace code

Email Microsoft before you use it if you're not absolutely sure it was them who gave it to you. It wouldn't hurt, and if it is legit, it's not like the code is going anywhere.

Its for a helm and legit.  I got two Live messages and a email.  All three codes were the same
