Okay that makes my day even more than getting a copy of Bioshock.  I loved the first game sooo much.  I seriously can't wait for this.  And the screenshots are lovely.

damn that looks nice.  i heard about this elsewhere and it made me very happy to know a sequel is finally coming.  i really hope they prod the team behind hidden and dangerous and get pterodon working on a vietcong sequel.

this is my most anticipated of the three though.  loved the first one as well.  they really nailed the atmosphere.

Literally, yes. Figuratively no.

And what platforms will it be on.

Mafia (PC) is in my top 10 games of all time...and I just recently reloaded it to go through it again.

When's it due?

I thoroughly enjoyed my play through of Mafia but when I was finished I didn't have the urge to try again (though I know many of you here did). That said, it's made me not want to play similar games (Godfather) since then due to the idea that they couldn't hold up to the original. Go figure slywink

Any guesses as to what gameplay might or might not have changed in the sequel?

I loved mafia so much, I even learned to appreciate the music of the era.  I would find yself humming those 20 tunes when I drove to work if I had played a big session the night before.

Mafia was gaming magic IMHO

This is very exciting news, though hopefully console versions won't suck like they did for the first one.  The setting, the story, the music...it was all good for the first one (except that damn racing level).

So seriously, given the resolution, how are they going to make a proper sequel? This concerns me a bit...however, Mafia is one of my top 10 or 12 all time games, and I was thinking about replaying it this year. I cannot freaking wait for this one!! WOOOT! Please please please be the same team.

Well, it's confirmed to be Illusion Softworks so it should be pretty close to the same team unless they've had massive turnovers in the last five years.

We may as well make this a sticky thread now, cause it's gonna be 3000 posts long before this game ever comes out.  After Mass Effect, this is now my most anticipated game. And early favorite for game of the year 2008.

Possible spoilerish comment:

Spoiler for Hiden:
As to Calvin's concerns, it could potentially be a different character.

By looking at the screens, there are a few clues in there to the timeframe being in the mid-1940s rather than the '30s. Who knows how that will tie-in to the first one...if at all.

i liked the 30's setting.  remember how the cars became progressively better as the storyline aged?  nothing like the feeling you get from grabbing a sweet ride after paying your dues in the old jalopy.

Agreed. It probably is a PC lead title.  My PC was last built/upgraded in Nov 2001.  It better come out for 360.

Well they're releasing it on "next-generation consoles" according to the press release.  I'm certain the 360 will see it.
