Madden developer - This year we focused on the core gameplay, and listened to what the fans wanted.  He immediately transisitions to showing the game, and says, I'm going to show you my favorite part of the game.... Broadcast Presentation...

UMMMM, really? You consider the presentation the core game?  I mean how bout finally building an AI that doesn't cheat, or how bout time management, how bout franchise AI/Features?

Same here.  Last year was the first time since the early 90s I did not buy Madden.

Well tried the demo.  No announcers which is normal for the demo, so the atmosphere of the game felt off.  However while they added new splash graphics, it's the same broken shit.  They can't even do replays and highlights correctly.  Every replay/highlight is shown half way into the play, some times the last second of the play.   Just feels disjointed.  After seeing the bullet points of features earlier this year, my suspicions have been validated.  If I do end up playing it's it's either going to be a gift/rental or a heavy sale.

Sounds like Madden.  With no competition for the license, there's no reason to be innovative.  Also, the majority of people that play this game just want stuff that looks cool.   They don't care if it simulates a real football game.

Backbreaker physics on my iphone seem better than Madden physics on the console...or at least the animations seem more lifelike.  I know the horse has been pummeled far into the earth, but playing the backbreaker minigames on the iphone and 360 makes me wish nostalgically for a modern 2k5.  The best thing to happen to EA's NHL series was the competition from NHL 2k.  EA lost for a few years, and then figured out a way to get their shit together, and now we have probably the best sports game on the market as result several years running.   

This will most likely be the first year that I haven't purchased any football game since the early 90s also.  The industry innovation just isn't there.  Without competition, don't you think EA will milk that engine until the new generation of consoles launch?

8.5 from Gametrailers, with the final call being it needed a little bit more time in the oven.  they also do a comparison of 360 vs PS3 graphics for those wondering.  I was kinda tempted again this year (especially with the $20 Amazon credit) but I think I'll pass for now.

To be fair to all sports games, a one year development cycle is ridiculously short, especially for a game with no real 'predetermined path'.  I'm not saying bugs are a good thing, just saying that given their constraints it's not at all surprising.

EA doesn't fix seemingly basic components of the engine, but they have time to add extra chrome and other assorted fluff each year.

Oh well. The last time I bought Madden was something like 3 or 4 years ago so I am hardly qualified to say. Maybe some of the more hardcore Madden guys around here can comment once they get the game and try it out. I did download and play the demo and I will admit that it looks quite nice in terms of graphics.

I'd bet that stuff is much, much harder to fix and it doesn't sell as many copies as chrome and fluff do, I'm afraid.

My favorite thing in the last few years is something most people probably hate. The computer picking your plays. LOVE IT!

Instead of scrolling through 300 plays, they grab something that probably is good for the situation and I run it.

I'm all for simulation and the strategy of football, but I prefer playing to coaching.
