Wow, what a fun game this is. Granted, I am only 10-15% done, but I really love what I've seen so far. I had heard it really wasn't an FPS, but I didn't realize what was meant by that. It's an adventure/puzzle/platform game, just from the first person perspective.
Criticisms so far: - poor use of the C stick. I gather this will be used to switch between weapons at some point, but to not use it to move the camera is just silly. Just about every console FPS and even other Nintendo games use the C stick (or second analog) to move the camera. It can make fighting trickier than it needs to be, and having to stop and hold down R to scan can be annoying. - not enough save spots. I don't mind limiting save spots, but so far there have been some really long stretches where I couldn't save. - backtracking - I haven't had to do too much yet, but it is becoming apparent that if I want to get all the powerups there will be a lot of backtracking to do.
That's about it for now. The graphics are beautiful, and I don't mind that the story is being moved along by text that much, seeing as it is a very solo journey. I really wish the game was in 3rd person though. I hope after Corruption they consider making a 3rd person 3D Metroid.

Your criticisms are right on the money. Using the C-stick for weapon switching never quite became intuitive. But the game is so good, it was easy to overlook the hurdles as necessary evils. I didn't feel the same way about the second game, though. The story and gameplay just didn't hook me there, and the save points were still too far away, so eventually I just stopped playing.

I'm glad that Metroid Prime did NOT use the 'dual analog' mode of the Gamecube controller. Why?
The C-Stick SUCKED as an analog stick.
Plus, it would've turned MP into a FPS instead of the 'first person explorer' title it's known for. And it would've lost what made it stick out in a crowded field (at the time) of FPS games.
Yes, I admit, I did review the game for GT way back when, but I stand by what I said when this game was better off for using only one analog stick.

It took a bit to get used to but after a bit I learned to deal with only one stick being used. it is kind of hard to play other FPS games and go back though.

If it had used the C stick to control the camera I would have HATED Metroid Prime. Instead it's one of my favorites.

Welcome to Metroid. That's been a part of the series since the beginning.

Welcome to Metroid. That's been a part of the series since the beginning. I will admit the map system is great, though, as every room has a name so I can at least make an easy note to return to "room x" once I get a particular gadget or weapon. The in-game hint system is also great for nudging you along, as there is no way I would have remembered passing through a half pipe before I knew what it was for. Oh, another little peeve - respawns when you return to a room. Creatures I can live with, because creatures reproduce and move around. But if I take out a bunch of auto-turrets in a room, leave the room and come back, those auto-turrets should still be gone. If there are some magical repair robots floating around, then I should see them if I hang out in the room long enough.

Any Cube Controller (corded or wavebird) and a memory card. That's it.

Ugh. A memory card?? It can't save to system? Would a SD card work?

Damn...your subject title just about made me faint! I thought you had new info on a hybrid game that combined LOZ: Link To The Past + Metroid Prime. I had instant fantasies of Samus in Hyrule obliterating all that's evil with her cannon and Link taking out space pirates with his sling shot. Now I want this game very badly! Pleeez be more careful with your subject titles.

Ugh. A memory card?? It can't save to system? Would a SD card work? No. The Gamecube emulation is exactly that - the Wii basically turns into a Gamecube, so as such it requires the original Cube controllers and memory cards.

Except for the lack of rumble, which is annoying. But when I got my Wii, I packed up my wired Gamecube controller with my old cube, and I use only my 2 Wavebirds.

Damn, Wavebird doesn't rumble? That stinks. I'm going to get one anyway, but the rumble was actually kind of nice.

In a Zelda thread maybe. Here it means "Late to the party".
