Ok, let's try this one more time....though something tells me this will go smoother than the last time I made a topic on Live Arcade.

The game for next week is: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (400 pts)

That is what a little bird has told me....oh ok, I got it from the Gaming Age Forums.  ninja

Sweet!!  After a long dry spell, it's been a pretty good couple of weeks between Alien Hominid, Worms, and now this.

I remember having played this so much in the arcades that I could beat the entire game with 3 quarters.... those were the days :-)

I swear, between this and the Wii Virtual Store I'm going to go broke - hate to think how bad it's going to be when I pick up a PS3 soon...

but Leonardo had the twin Katana's, which gives him an instant coolness win over the 2 others (Rafael doesn't even rank with his sai's).

It actually makes sense the game is coming out on XBLA now since the new movie hits this month too.

okay,it came available 52 minutes ago

i downloaded it
i played it
i finished it

for some reason it gives you infinite lives, which is good,as i would never of got through the game with 3 lives or even 10 lives for that matter, some of the end of level bosses were a pain

and yes,i stand corrected...leonardo was/is the best

i have a few friends who are gonna play a co-op game with me,so hopefully i can get a few more achievements instead of just the 1 that i got

there are 5 stages altogether...must of took about 20-25 minutes and 30 or so lives to finish,LOL

400 points is proberbly the right price,i dont think i would of got this if the price was any higher

I got it.....and it doesn't have the original music!!!    mad

No Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme. I loved that old theme. It cuts off right after the Turtles jump off the building at the start of the game. Grrr...

Only 30 minutes long?

Well, it was an arcade game so I can somewhat agree with them making it short.

The cut out the original music?

I'll pass.

I just figured out it does have the original music....but not in the game for some reason. Just don't push any buttons (don't pick a turtle) once you start the single player game and it goes into the attract mode. There it plays the theme music that we all love. It's like they cut the start of the game (right after the "Hang on April, you hear the music about to start, then *poof* it jumps ahead cutting out the intro and you are in the burning building) and the end of the game (yes, the cut part of the ending as well) but they forgot about the attract mode or something. Very strange.

I got it and played about 10 minutes.  Nostalgia is strong with this one, right down to the hilarious arcade-era voices.  PIZZA TIME!!  There are the parking meters and fire hydrants to break, and the non-canonical foot soldiers with boomerangs among other things smile  It is a very simple game - attack and jump.  Press them together and do a strong attack.  That's it.  I like Raphael best but I'm pretty sure they're all identical.  A good variety of achievements including time challenges, beating bosses taking only minimal damage, and knocking down all the traffic signs and fire hydrants and the like.  About what I expected for $5.

I remember spending far more than 30 mins with it and not beating it in the arcade and that's with 3 others on the sticks.  Maybe we just sucked.

I downloaded it this morning and played for about 15 minutes.  I hate to say it, but I'm terribly disappointed.  The graphics are horribly dated, the gameplay is repetitive, the achievements are far from inspiring, unlimited lives take away from any sense of challenge, some of the cutscenes have been...um...cut, and even though the nostalgia is there, I don't see this game holding my interest much beyond the 15 minutes I played this morning.  And that's too bad, because I expected more from this Live Arcade title, but it unfortunately has not aged well.

I guess the $5 I spent was worth it for a little taste of nostalgia, but being able to play fantastic classics like Galaga and Worms, TMNT unfortunately falls horribly short.  At least it has helped me to further appreciate some of the better Live Arcade offerings.

I feel I have already gotten my money's worth out of games like Worms (on Monday night my wife, friend, and I played for hours, and would have played even more if it wasn't so late, and I even got in a couple of competitive games with rrmorton as well), but even if I find the time to play through the entire TMNT storyline, even $5 seems a little high for what we got.  There are better Live offerings out there, and I'm disappointed at how idealistic my memories were of this title and how much of a letdown the game has become.   icon_cry

d/l the this morning  and played some before heading to work.  It;s worth the points to me and I am having a blast.  Some of the achievements are just neat.  For instance I got a fall into a manhole 5x achievements.  It's a good beer and pretzel game, imo

Yeah, I think it is worth the $5. It's fun to play, just like Final Fight is still fun to play.

I'm not that happy about them cutting out parts of the original game though.

It looks like I have to revise my original statement about TMNT having unlimited lives.  Watching the status of one of the people on my Friends list playing TMNT, Live lists the following information:

Quote
Playing TMNT 1989 Arcade
Arcade Score 25 Level 1 Lives 10000

So, it seems that one starts with a finite number of lives, 10,000 to be exact.  Granted, this is almost equivalent to having unlimited lives, but there appears to in fact be a limit to the number of lives one begins with in TMNT, making it at least possible for someone to run out of lives before finishing the game.  Unlikely, but at least possible.

Just thought that was an "interesting" tidbit to share.  I at least found it interesting when I noticed it while browsing my Friends list.

I got this achievement, but got it after only falling in one manhole and only once.  Seems to be bugged.
