With so many titles coming out at launch -- and so many quality titles -- I'm interested to know what people are looking to get with their PSP!

I have so many that I am hyped for that my wallet is going to take a severe hit come the 24th

There is a lengthy thread on the GameSpot forums asking people to rank their top three most anticipated games. For fun I went through and assigned 3 points to each game ranked #1, two points for #2 and one point for #3 and then tallied them up for each game. Although this is (to put it mildly) unscientific and a small sample, I think it's interesting to see what titles are on people's minds at this point:

Ridge Racer -- 62
Twisted Metal -- 36
Metal Gear Acid -- 31
Wipeout Pure -- 27
Untold Legends -- 26
Need for Speed -- 26
THUG 2 Remix -- 25
Lumines -- 16
Mercury -- 16
Rengoku -- 9
Dynasty Warriors -- 8
Darkstalkers -- 7
Spider-Man -- 5
Ape Escape -- 4
Tiger Woods -- 3
NFL Street -- 2
NBA -- 2
FIFA Soccer -- 2
ATV Offroad Fury -- 1
World Tour Soccer -- 1

I only included games that are coming out on launch day (there were a few votes for Grand Theft Auto and GT4 Mobile). Looks like the Japanese reviews of Ridge Racer have given it a big headstart in people's minds. It will be interesting to see how that changes as North American reviews start appearing of the other games.

What games are you looking forward to?? biggrin

(P.S. If you're not interested in the PSP or think it's "the crappiest sytem ever made", that's cool, but please feel free to start another thread about it. OK? biggrin )

I'm very interested to see what the PSP can do and think it can be a fantastic system.  Unfortunately, not a single one of the launch titles interests me enough to pick one up.  Much like the DS, it looks like I'll be waiting for some more games and/or a price drop.

Devil, I'm VERY curious to hear your impressions of Lumines. That is one of my most wanted games!

btw, I heard from an EB store manager yesterday that EB (in Canada anyways) will ONLY be selling Gretzky as part of a system bundle. Likewise, if you want to buy a PSP in Canada from this moment, you are OBLIGED to buy the Gretzky bundle. I HATE this!!!!

Haven't toyed with it too much yet but I'll report back when I do! Seems fun from my limited time with it.

I'm happy that they are forcing Gretzky on you in Canada!

Here are my top 3.

1) Mercury

2) Lumines

3)  Ridge Racer tied with Tiger Woods Golf (3/30 for it)

2 Puzzlers in my top 3!  I'm not even huge on puzzlers.  They both look outstanding though.

When do you guys plan on actually playing with your new gameboys?  Do you take lots of plane trips, play while on the crapper, what?

I don't get it.

What happened to Death, Jr.?  I thought that was going to be one of the first launch titles?

That's why the three gameboys I've owned didn't last very long... I simply didn't have much use for them.  THough as I'm making more and more flights for my job, I'm seriously considering picking up a PSP.

I will play it when my wife is watching a TV show that I don't really enjoy.

Its just another console to me- I rarely use the portable capabilities of my SP or DS.  I'll just sit on the couch in the house and play them.  Good games are good games whether portable or on the TV.

Portables do have the added bonus of allowing me to play games while sitting with my wife though- something that my PS2, Xbox, and Cube won't allow me to do.

Fifa and RR. Although I'm not sure about RR, and debating getting untold legends instead. As for why, I have a lot more chance to play a PSP then the XBox when my wife is at home. She enjoys her soap operas.

Totally forgot about that little dilemma.

I now completely understand.  Carry on.

1) Untold Legends

2) Metal Gear Ac!d

3) Lumines

4) Either Tiger Woods, NBA, or NFL Street

I could be persuaded to get Ridge Racer if some super fantastic reviews come out - but otherwise I don't see myself playing that much.

I'll add my vote to the 3 here for Untold Legends. For countless years I've dreamed about a Diablo game for a handheld. Now this isn't Diablo exactly, but the genre is right! My biggest hope is that the game isn't MOTS like Return to Arms was.

One cool thing I have heard in a developer's interview is the work they have done on item randomization, the sheer number and variety of weapons and armor! Sounds like you're more likely to find items that are applicable to your own character, and that rare items aren't quite as rare as in the other games.

I'm also intrigued by the random levels and the way you can redo levels you enjoyed at any point in the game, and the configuration and monsters will be completely different, with the monsters scaled to your current level! That sounds pretty neat!

I too cannot manage to wrap my mind around the idea that is 'portable game playing'.  Why would I want any form of console that doesn't tie me to a tv?  This concept of being able to take the game somewhere, like say, on the mass transit system to work...it's just too hard for me to understand.

Right now, just FIFA and ape escapre, although Im not going to be getting one, those still interest me. I would want an RPG though. An FPS would interest me if there  was a second analog stick.
