The next LEGO game (after the LEGO Movie game) has been announced and it's LEGO The Hobbit.  It's based on the first two films (presumably, they're planning on a LEGO Hobbit 2 featuring all 3 films) and will be out for all systems in 2014.

I was just saying to someone that I figured this would be their next game.

Of course I'll be all over this.

I think you're thinking of LEGO Lord of the Rings.

They have certainly changed what LEGO really means.  Not in a bad way but they are certainly not a "build whatever you imagine" company anymore.

I thought Lego LotR was one of the, if not the best Lego game to date. Looking forward to this.

As they can no longer maintain exclusivity on the base model bricks, they have to do something to drive demand. Like Monopoly, they're doing it with licensing agreements and limited editions. The old buckets are still around, but there's no margin and too much competition to survive as just the more modern version of Lincoln Logs.
