certainly a turd sandwich, but one with a golden kernel of news in the center:

Quote
Square Enix has laid off almost half of the employees at IO Interactive as part of “significant changes” at the studio.

In a statement passed on to Develop, a spokesperson for the studio said the Denmark-based company was moving toward a sole focus on the Hitman franchise, and as a result would be cancelling a number of projects and initiatives at the studio. The developer is currently in pre-production on a new triple-A Hitman title.

of course Squeenix could can the project too, but for now:

layoffs: Boo!
Hitman 6: yay!

I don't think there's any possibility that the new game is anything other than a mobile game.

Nah, it'll be a next gen Hitman game.

It's likely publishers, and studios, are being cautious about these next gen consoles, so are focusing on single games. Once they sort out the costs for developing this next gen, then they'll start building up again.

This game is coming from Square Enix, though, who've said they plan to focus heavily on mobile games.  I expect Hitman will follow Deus Ex's lead in going mobile for the next game.
