I'm sure there's been tons of posts and praises about KOTOR, but I'm gonna add another one :
I'd been playing KOTOR off and on the past year and with the sequel coming up, I really wanted to finish it. The past couple weeks I really dug in and finished it today. What an awesome awesome game. Yes, it deserves two awesomes. I loved seeing my character go from a lowly Han Solo type scoundrel all the way to being a Force wielding powerhouse. I certainly knew about a "twist" but I had no idea what it was. I'm glad I didn't read anything to spoil the surprise because I didn't see that one coming. The whole thing took me a little over 50 hours and I went goody-goody light side the entire way.
Here are a few highlights/notes of interest :
- Fantastic group of NPCs. I usually stuck with Canderous and either Bastila or Juhani. It was great how they all had their own histories and side missions to really flesh them out. Listening to Mission riff on Zalbaar about his breath was priceless.
- Darth Malak. Great menacing bad guy. They should have used him instead of Count Dooku in the movies. I loved the whole "apprentice faces off against the master" at the end.
- Heal was my best friend. Stasis Field was a distant second.
- Finished with over 100 Adrenal Alacritys. Never used 'em. I never used much of the other ones either.
- I finally got to see a Krayt dragon!
- My light side Jedi can obliterate a Tusken Raider camp, kill them and their women and not gain any Dark Side points. They must be evil.
- Hearing HK-47 call everyone a "meatbag". Then hearing the history of how he came to use the term "meatbag". Hilarious!
Negatives? I can't really think of much other than little nit picky stuff, so I won't even mention them. I see now why it won so many GOTY awards. February can't come soon enough for me to get my hands on the sequel.

I really enjoyed the heck out of KOTOR as well. I was impressed at how well they managed to keep me locked in. I just couldn't put the thing down until I finished it! The second trip through on the evil side was good, but not quite as good, probably because I knew the twist at the end.
HK is the best character in recent memory in a game that I can think of. hhhee....meatbag.

What got me about HK was just how malevolent he was. It cracked me up to no end how gleeful he was about having the chance to kill anything that moved.
/urge to play again... rising....

Without giving too much away, how much different is it playing through as dark side? I've already made up a new character. This time a female soldier and I'll send her down the Dark Side.

Without giving too much away, the choices you get start at Evil and go to Royally Evil before you get a few decisions that will make you extremely squemish.

Yeah...I played again as dark just to see it, thinking I'd get a few more scowls and that's it. But it's a whole other experience.

True - I've just started a dark side character, but was pleasantly surprised to see that one of the first quests on Taris played out quite differently, depending on the path you chose.
