If you try a demo of an arcade game it goes into your record and says you have 0 of 200 achievement points.  I mean that's stupid.  Why does it track demos as a game you've played?

Also, anyway to remove that from the records?

You're right.  It could be especially damaging if your boss ever found out.  Or God forbid, your significant other.

My dog caught a glimpse of some of those "0 Out Of 200" entires before I could switch menus, and now instead of following my commands, he just shakes his head in disbelief and wanders off.  icon_frown

The worst thing about Achievements is that now, when I play games on other systems, I'm constantly reaching various checkpoints thinking "too bad, that would have been a great Achievement".

That's interesting because last week I was explaining to a friend of mine how it was possible that the Transformers could have crash landed on prehistoric Earth yet remained inactive until they were awoken in the modern age, and a little bubble appeared near my feet that notified everyone that I'd unlocked the "Wasted Your Life!" Achievement.

I completely agree.  In fact I am going to play through BFME II on the 360 over the PC purely because of the  achievement system.

Must have been a bug. I think it was actually the "I'm really just that cool" achievement.

I don't care per se, but I am rather finicky about stuff being there that shouldn't. It should be an accurate repsentation of what i've played. Not what I've thought about playing.

I love the achievements.  They are entirely disproportionately important to me.  I bought the Burger King games largely because I heard that they would be 200 easy achievement points each.  Sadly, they are not.

I really like the achievements, I get a kick out of seeing what I've unlocked and what else I can go back and open up. I think in some cases too they can add extra life to games/levels that you may not have normally wanted to go back and play through again.

As a tangent, I do like the fact that it tracks the stuff you've played.  I don't are about the "high score" aspect of achievements but I do like a lot of the tracking abilities you get from the achievements and other info linked to your gamertag.  I took a lot of statistics in college and it does my heart good to see this stuff.

Also, I *love* that the Wii logs which games you play and for how long every day.  Wish Xbox Live did that.

I don't really care about my total achievement score.  But I do like having a permanent record of things that I have done in each game.

If there were true rewards tied to this stuff I'd be more interested.  If I could unlock items/abilities/levels through achievement completion then that would be pretty neat.  As it, the little blip that I get just isn't enough to convince me that my time wouldn't have been better spent elsewhere unless getting the achievement itself is sufficiently entertaining (which sometimes it is).

I'd really like if if your gamerscore could be used to purchase things from the marketplace.  That would make it much more worthwhile IMO.

i just got a x360.  What exactly is the point of achievements?  This is a genuine question, not a flame.  Are they basically for bragging rights, or do they - for example - give you marketplace points?

Strictly bragging rights.  There is no material benefit involved.

I enjoy competing with Fyedaddy for gamerscore just for the fun of it, but otherwise it's a total non-issue. I more enjoy the aspect of having records of things I've accomplished for the fun of it.

I think the reason that it tracks it like that on a demo is that if you ever buy it, it will give you the achievements you already earned.  So, it is kind of initializing it.

Nah, I'm with you on this one.  They mean less than nothing to me as well. I actually find it ludicrous that they actually use that as a selling point for the games in the first place.

They are present in arcade demos only.  Like I said, if you would have earned a real one by playing the demo, you can buy the full version and you will get credit for that achievement.

I like the achievements themselves.  As others have said, it will sometimes get me to replay a section in a different manner.  The points themselves don't mean anything, other than maybe a rough gauge as to how long a person has had/played the game.  Playing BF2 the other night papa smurff and I were having an easier time of it than normal, I checked the recently played section and noticed that most of the people had less than a 100 pts.  Which meant they'd just gotten the console/game.  <shrug>

I tend to get easily distracted from games.  The achievements themselves can help me keep a focus, and occasionally draw me back to play a game I would have left alone otherwise.

Agreed.  There are some I'll go back through a game and try to get, but some I won't bother with.  The only ridiculous one that I'm seriously contemplating is the 55k zombie kils in Dead Rising.  But I don't know if I will.  10k will probably be enough.

I dont like that either, call it OCD or whatever, but I don't like it. There should be a delete option for 0 point acheivement listings.
