So far out it isn't funny - but I don't find anything about motion control games appealing.

Same here. I know I'll probably end up with it in the house someday, but it won't be for me, nor will it be for those prices.

I've paid more than that for my PC gaming peripherals like Track-IR, HOTAS etc. I will probably wait and see if core games get some love (i.e. using Kinect + Controller together). I'm not interested in Wii Sports type games or mini game compilations but I'm slightly ashamed to admit, I'm a bit curious about the dancing games

Not a surprise on the price...what was MS thinking letting the retailers be the ones to announce the price well before they did? That being said, I will buy because I am a technology freak.

I will probably get this out of curiosity and hope for future games, as well playing the casual ones with my niece/nephew when we get together.
It does make me laugh, however, when they promote how all first-party Kinect games will only cost $50. That's what they said for all 360 games when they first launched the platform and it didn't last long.

Short of the 3DS anyway. Why? You have to buy a brand new TV (I just replaced mine, so sorry, I won't be going into the 3D 'evolution' anytime soon) just to view it. And there's those awful glasses you have to put on (and when you already wear glasses because you can't see otherwise, 3D glasses on top of that suck). Nintendo will keep 3D going though. A portable console that doesn't require glasses? Sign me up! And BWAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHA! Oh, wait. Microsoft is serious about that pricing? BWHAAHHAHAHHAHAHAAH! Microsoft has SO lost it it's not even funny. The WiiMote2 (er, Sony Move) will blow that thing out of the water so far it was DoA back at E3. Of course, the WiiMote was there first, and 3 years ago, so... FAIL. Epic EPIC fail on Microsoft's part. EDIT: This thing will fail just as badly as the Microsoft Kin, the Sega Activator, and the Virtual Boy. Guaranteed.

$150 with a game, don't forget. I don't think the price is so out of range. As far as if I'm in or out, I'm in as soon as hardcore games begin implementing Kinect. Mass Effect 3, navigating the space map with your hands, IN!!

Start a preemptive one. Also, Destructor, you love you some N. You go girl. I love me some games, regardless of platform. I'm also a big fan of the next step, and if you think, as a serious gamer that games on the Wii stand up to the comparable on PS3 or 360, perhaps you should take off the 3d glasses. I own all three, and my ps3 is a media box, and the wii is a nice place to let dust settle. The PS3 has its motion sensor in the dualshocks, and how often is THAT used? If we're talking about fail, it is way more likely to fail than the Kinect - just think of the cost of entry for a two player game. The Kinect, on the other hand, is giving you a game, and (at least) two player control. I want to see it first-hand (oo the pun).

My Wii collects just as much dust as everyone else's does. A ton. The only games I own for it are the basic Nintendo core line (Zelda, Metroid, etc, and not even all of those) and lightgun games (the good ones anyway). And those types of games are very far and few between. Why I haven't fired it up in, well, quite a few months now. All this year? I dunno.
My DS? It gets a lot of playtime. This is also why I see the 3DS as nothing but more money printing for Nintendo.
The serious issue I see with Kinect is that there's only so many things you can do without a controller. And there's very few games where you could play 'better' on Kinect than you could with a controller. Like the dance games. And petting that animal thing. And...that's about it.
Sony's Move and Nintendo's WiiMote have the right idea - a controller that also lets you do other things. I still insist that FPS games control better with the WiiMote (and the Move I'm assuming) than with dual analog control. The Metroid games with sensitivity turned up to max were such the perfect way to play. Same with lightgun games (as current tech can't read hi-def sets among other problems).
And the motion sensor in the Dual Shock was mostly ignored because there was little way to use it without it feeling like a total gimmick. And for the most part you could easily just use the analog stick for far more sensitivity.
Also with the Move, you don't need to purchase both 'parts' to play. The Dual Shock can be used instead of buying the non-ball analog stick thing (I've completely forgotten the name of it), thus keeping costs down. So all you need to buy is the camera and ball controller to use Move. Yes, the non-ball controller would be far easier to handle one handed, but it isn't a requirement.

I think the key application I would like to see for this is to use it WITH a controller, not instead of. I want to see TrackIR type headtracking for racing/flying/shooting games. That's far from a gimmick imo.

See, Destructor, you've missed the point. The Kinect replaces the controller for some KINECT games. That does not mean it replaces it for all Kinect-enabled games.
The motion controls for Sony's system are wasted; they work but they don't encourage their use as a viable OPTION.
Look at Flower- a fantastic game that required you to only ever push one button.

I could totally dig that. FPS combat with body stances and leaning and extra motions from Kinect but 2d movement direction and aiming with the controller could be really immersive and fun. I despair of ever seeing a realistic flight simulator on xbox 360, but using it for looking around in Forza would be killer!

Out now and out forever. I hope this doesn't continue the motion sensing trend so that eventually all games of the future will require me to flail my arms around to play them. Then I'd need to find a new hobby.

apparently,Kinect requires six feet of space between you and the TV,which is quite annoying as i would have to mess about with the furniture,i may be able to squeeze it though,if i was buying it anyway so i hope those who plan on buying it are in bigger rooms than me,LOL http://www.destructoid.com/amazon-six-feet-of-space-needed-to-play-kinect-179498.phtml
