I bought this game in April of 2003 a mere four months after getting my xbox.  I played a little bit of the first level, liked what I saw, but never got back to it.

Well, 3 years later,  as I attempt to clean out my backlog before purchasing either a PS2 or DS, I fired it up.  This game is so good.  While I won't give it an A, yet, I'm enjoying it immensely.

I just finished the fourth stage, where you fly around a GIGANTIC mothership.  The sense of scale was incredible and the speed of the action was exciting.

The boss on the level (a combination of a giant statue and some elite wormriders) was wholly original, a bit of a puzzler, but not controller throwing complicated.

PDO hearkens back to me of the Golden Days of Space Harrier: A gozillion enemies on the screen and you gots to blast em (I spend like 15 bucks one day on completing Space Harrier back in the day).  Great fun and though an oldie, it's definitely still a great looking and fun game.

Though I  have no idea what's going on with the crazy story slywink, I would highly recommend it.

Excellent game, and I love the series in general.

And if you missed Panzer Dragoon Saga on the Saturn...I'm sorry. Such a memorable Action/RPG that uses the world (and the whole riding on a dragon thing) perfectly.

I did play the demo years ago and liked it. I just never picked up the full game for some odd reason... :?

As I've progressed further through the game (I just completed episode 7 of 10) I continue to marvel at the wacky creativity.  The story is starting to come together for me and I'm loving it.

Are there any other games similar to this on the XBOX?

PDO is firmly in A territory right now.

In my experience, Normal (there's also an Easy and a Hard if I remember right) was pretty much perfect until the final stage. Then things got ugly.

I really should pop this game back in one of these days...

I'm playing on normal and so far it has been perfect. Sure, I've had to replay some of the bosses, but it has never gotten to a frustrating level.

Not really, Panzer Dragoon Orta was part of a huge push of support from Sega early on in the Xbox's lifecycle but unfortunately it quickly became clear that the core Xbox demographic just wasn't interested in such games (almost all of the early Sega exclusives, including Panzer Dragoon, bombed hard).

It's expensive as hell to do, but Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Sega Saturn is considered the series' pinnacle by a wide margin so you if you want to save up some books you could look to that.

And you're not kidding. Checking eBay, I see a few auctions that have Buy It Now prices of $170 and up. Starting bid on one is 'only' $140.

And I thought the Sega CD Lunar titles held their value for way too long. biggrin

But, when PDS was released stateside, it launched with only about 10,000 copies. Instant collectors edition. Sad that so few people ever played such a classic.

Finished up the game last night.  It is definitely an A rated game in my book as I had fun the whole time I played it.

As mentioned before, it hearkens back to the days of Space Harrier and I had forgotten how much I love simple straight forward shooters.

I had a great time playing it, would recommend it whole heartedly.

I think the dragon change dynamic, once you get a handle of it, is a brilliant concept.  Now that I know what I'm doing, I may just play through it again to see if I can better my final ranking (General) or try it at a higher difficulty.

I RARELY replay games, but this game may fall into that category.

It's relatively short. I'd say I beat it in about 9 hrs (9 hrs being a good length for me), though the total in the game said 6 (don't know if it counts restarts).  And...I'm actually playing through some of the extra scenarios- which are just the icing on the cake.

Well done, Sega- even if this praise comes 3 years after you released it.

I'd say if you missed out on playing Saga, play Orta instead. I've played a demo of Orta, and the graphics are far far superior to Saga's.

Then again, we're not really comparing identical games, though there are many similarities.

I sold my copy of Saga a couple years ago for about $140. When I pulled it out of storage for a quick play, I was stunned at how ugly the graphics were. I had become spoiled on today's eye candy.

So off to ebay it went.

I thought GUNVALKYRIE was supposedly similar, at least in that kind of tough-as-hell shooter vein.
