not very surprising, but sources are saying it's due out in 2012.  I for one would love to see more destructible terrain, and perhaps a move away from the tropics.  perhaps some bigger city environments.....

Sweet, I can always go for more open world destruction!

I'm going to predict right now that they have full co-op for JC3.  I would almost bet that Renegade Ops was a way for them to develop and prove that networking layer for a bigger project like this.

My big complaint about this game was that it was such a humongous world, ripe for DLC - new missions, new challenges, new gameplay types. And... all we got were what, some vehicles and weapons? That were only available on a per-item basis, if I recall right.

Edit: Whoops, I meant 2. Not 3 of course.

They should have had a Godzilla island DLC.

I want Renegade Ops DLC though I suspect Avalanche will just draw the RO team back into this project.

Too bad it doesn't look like it's for next-gen consoles. It's the type of game that would have benefited from those.

That's looking even more retro.

A Just Cause set in the early 20th Century would be pretty cool.

That really urks me.  Come on SE, stop fucking around with this consumer-hating garbage.  First you drop TR2 from a mult-plat to exclusive for money, now you add f2p transactions to an open world game?  If they go this route, then I'll have no trouble skipping your games.

SE, are you trying to top EA for the most hated gaming company?

I'll give these guys the benefit of the doubt until they actually announce something.

There's no reason to assume something they were trying out internally is going to be in the final game, especially given how the wind has changed on free to play in "core" games over the last couple years.

Apparently an Avalanche founder has tried to clear this up on Twitter:

We currently have ONE F2P game and it's been out since 2009. I hope that helps you guys getting some sleep. Doesn't change my opinion though

Dude, you really need to look at SE's history with where Final Fantasy has landed - they've never EVER had a problem with swinging on one console or another.

Yeah, I guess that's true enough for Square's properties.  I'm still annoyed that they did this with Eidos' games despite how well TR sold and was received on both platforms.  They are expecting FF level returns on games that have not had the same historical selling patterns.  Equate this with what could happen if Activision bought Rockstar.  Now we suddenly have huge, CoD-level expectations for games like Bully or RDR or The Warriors.  It feels too much like the EA days when they shuttered good studios for not performing to their higher standards.

They started with Nintendo, dumped them (on console at least) during the PS1 days and was primarily a Sony console-only until XI and XIII.  They've targeted the console where they felt they would make the most money in return.  Trust me, I would love some of their DS titles to come out on Vita as well, but they don't see the point.

To get back on topic of Just Cause 3, it looks like they are officially announcing it this month with a Game Informer cover story.

Here is a short little video talking with the Avalanche NY team

And they'll be updated this page on Game Informer as the month goes on.

Just Cause 3 is not free to play - it's a full price title for Windows PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4 scheduled for release in 2015

That's reassuring.  Hopefully, those early screenshots were from some abomination which has since been sent back to the hells from which it spawned.

There's nothing in that line that contradicts the screenshot we saw. Microtransactions doesn't mean it's free to play, only that the game has microtransactions.

Thankfully, the developer has confirmed that there will be no microtransactions in the game.

Quote
To be perfectly clear: Just Cause 3 will be available in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. It will be distributed as a retail box and digital download. It is not a Free To Play game. It does not feature in-game micro transactions.

TBH. Just Cause 2 had DLC, which could be considered micro-transactions.

I expected the same here - but I don't really care - I want to Bionic Commando all over the place all over again!!!
