Heres another chance for him to blow a huge amount of money and release a piece of crap.

I particularly like this one quote..
Quote
"It's a lot of money, this is the most money I've ever spent on a game - in Gauntlet it was like $10 million, but this is much more,"

Thats sig material in fact.

And this gem...
Quote
"I started looking at what I was going to do next, so I looked around on the net and I saw there was an opportunity for an MMO

So he thinks theres really room for a Romero'nized MMO?

Anyways heres the rest.

Quote
Not content with screwing up Gauntlet, John Romero is now working on a multi-million dollar massively multiplayer game:

"I started looking at what I was going to do next, so I looked around on the net and I saw there was an opportunity for an MMO, there was a person starting an MMO so I contacted him," Romero told us recently, explaining where his involvement with the project began. "We talked for hours on the phone, we had a lot of common interests and ideas about this title and so basically this guy was really excited, brought me on as a co-founder of the company and I've been here for almost four months now."
According to Romero (who says he loves MMOs), the game he's working on is "very different from any other MMO for some special reasons." Precisely what those special reasons are, he wouldn't elaborate. He did, however, admit that funding for the project is lurking in the many millions of dollars bracket. "It's a lot of money, this is the most money I've ever spent on a game - in Gauntlet it was like $10 million, but this is much more," Romero revealed.

Before anyone else here says it - Daikatana Online?

Meh, I will give him thre benefit of the doubt. He was directly and indirectly involved with some of the all time classics in computer gaming. He gets another try.

It only took the OO thread 7 posts to get the three Romero keywords in - Daikatana, bitch, and frogs.  Can GT beat that record, ignoring the words in this post?  With sensible, rational posts like the one from Calvin, things are off to a slow start slywink

Quite honestly game development in todays day and age can be so hit or miss.  My hope is that Romero can return to old form and really deliver a quality title.

Ha, when I first read the title of the thread, I did think it was a George Romero MMO. A world overridden with Zombies. How fucking sweet would a Land of the Dead-ish MMO be? Imagine being one of the zombies. Brains! BRAINS!!

Ok.  Here is the deal:

Romero is working on the DNF MMOG, it will be released on the Phantom, and a film based on it is in the works by Uwe Boll.

Jack Thompson was not available for comment.

Perhaps banging that 18 year old Romanian girl he has brought back some sense into him?  Okay, okay, that was bad, he does treat his women well.

But as for making games, well he's probably learned his lesson with the way everyone has been hounding him for Daikatana.  Has anyone played anything from him in the years following?  I recall he went into cheaper and smaller games for handhelds, how did that go?

I'll still wait for reviews either way.

Wasn't that Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows?

Yes, I actually recall Romero working on that recent game.

And if I also recall it did poorly.

A great example of success getting to someone.  What a waste.  Think about what he could have did for the industry if he wasn't blinded by success.

I liked it...it just lacked a lasting punch.

Granted, most Gauntlets are repetitive.

Anyway, $10 Million?  Romero is a fine example of someone unnecessarily overhyped who continues to fail upward.  His contributions to Doom were replacable, unlike Carmack's.
