Naturally, I'm super pumped to try the demon on an OXM disc and what happens? Daggon thing doesn't work... For the 3rd time in 5 months I have a demo disc that doesn't work.
Bitter I am.
So is the game good?

There are a couple threads on the Official Forums for Jade Empire if you want to get a lot of opinions. Personally I found it great...once I got over the idea it was going to be RPG Tekken. The combat only has a few buttons to hit and I haven't really found any combos so it isn't exactly a real fighting game. But it isn't suposed to be. It is an RPG with more interactive combat. It is about story and character and the path you choose rather than learning combos and combat moves. That said it is great in my opinion. It is beautiful, the characters look cool, the moves look neat, and the setting is very interesting. You don't get to see much dialogue but what there are for voice acting is very good and considering Bioware's reputation I am willing to trust that the story will be good. All in all the demo set me straight on what to expect from combat, but didn't show enough RPG elements to get me more excited then I was. So as a demo to hook players I would say it is a "C" but it is great if you are already interested in the game.

Bitter I am. Welcome to my world. First they show up 2-3 days later than everyone else, and then it seems that the demos for "Hoyles Extreme Blackjack" will work but when a cool demo comes along I get the shaft. Stupid OXM...

I keep hearing that but I've not tried it yet. Somebody explain WHY that works? As bad as it sounds, it takes the film off the bottom of the disk. You just put it in boiling water for a few seconds and wipe it off with a non-abrasive cloth.

i left it in for about 30 secs.
I didn't notice any 'film' come off...
it's cooling right now... we'll see.
Is there a specific length I should leave it in?

It literally is like having a totally new disc in my machine.
The load time was minimal and the demo worked no sweat.
WOW. I'm so impressed by the ingenuity of the gaming community.
As for the sixty second Jade Empire demo:
It did nothing to pursuade me to buy the game, but since I already have it preordered that's fine. What's good is that it didn't do anything to disuade me either.
True, I had no idea what the heck was going on, but cest la vi.
Thanks for the boiling tip!

The demo is ok. It is all combat, no exploration, no interactions. Just beat a few people up. The graphics are very nice, though not quite as nice as the screens they've released, I felt. But I guess that is par for the course when you're comparing painstakingly composed static screens vs. a moving image. The spell effects and animations are all impressive. In one part a guy gets crushed Eternal Darkness style which made me happy.
There is a feature video or two on it, and I honestly find the dialog to be way , way overwrought. The dialog in the video goes on FOREVER, and I think the voice acting is a little overdone in the cliched Asian style on some of the characters.
But, you know, the fighting. It's cool.

"WOW. I'm so impressed by the ingenuity of the gaming community." I just wonder how the idea ever popped into someone's head. "Gee, my DVD isn't working. I think I'll stick it in boiling water - that should help."

I just wonder how the idea ever popped into someone's head. "Gee, my DVD isn't working. I think I'll stick it in boiling water - that should help." It was a common occurance on CDs if they went bad. If you put them in boiling water chances were you boiled off the film that collected on it and it would work again. With DVDs the film is usually on DVDs that come from certain production houses that create the DVDs. Xbox games can also be fixed this way if you have DDE problems (outside of the obvious Thomson drive problem that is).

The demo was small and rather disappointing to me. And the Chinese jetcar ... ooookayyyy ... maybe that's the "fantasy" they're going for. Doesn't jive with me.
Way too much magic for my taste, and not enough real martial arts, it seems. Good job demo!
Back to KOTOR 2 ...

Back to KOTOR 2 ... Was curious about the jetcar too...don't know the mythology mixture direction they're headed but it's cool with me. I like that sort of blending... As for KOTOR 2. w00t! Enjoy it!

I wasn`t really looking forward to it, but I thought it would be something that might interest me. Nope. I`m not saying it`s bad, or good really...just not for me. Plus, the demo is so small and really didn`t answer many questions of mine about the game. I`ll read reviews, but probably just stay away from this one.

Devil,
could it have anything to do with where we live, like, does it come from the furthest SW corner of California, you figure? if that's the case, i'll get mine tomorrow since i'm in western MA, and you'll get yours on Friday - since you're "Boston-ish"... or we can hope... :?

I was really disappointed by that demo. It's something that should have had a disclaimer on it: this is a brief demo of combat in Jade Empire. Combat. Brief.
It didn't impress me much. It's alright. The game as a whole had better be more impressive than this small piece though, or I'll be greatly saddened.
And I want a REAL unarmed style, not that tiger claw thing.

I was just so bored with the game and wanting the quickest way to end the pain (I hate not finishing games) so I went to Gamefaqs to see how long I had left (over an hr as best as I could tell- decided to trade it in unfinished). It was listed in one of the guides there as a 'cheat' or trivia or something.
