Is it possible to make a Ps3 backwards compatible

I bought my Ps3 a while back and I have been wanting to make it backwards compatible so I can play Ps2 games without buying a Ps2, is there a program I can download on it or something else that will make that possible or am I out of luck.

You're out of luck unless you can get one of the earliest PS3 models, and those are probably starting to get a bit unstable at this point. A PS2 is cheap, so I'd just get one of those instead.

They are also vastly overpriced.  A separate PS2 mini is likely your best choice, as TiLT says.

don't wait too long though; they aren't making the PS2 anymore and the price is probably going to start going up.

Well thank you both, i've found a few on Craigslist so I will probably just try to grab one of them before people find out that Ps2 is discontinued.

you can download some PS2 games from PSN,hopefully the game you wish to play is on there(I seriously doubt it though,not a massive selection)


I have the launch PS3 so it can play PS2 titles,its better than the 360 for B/C but i do still have problems with some games(FF12 cutscenes   stutter etc)...and i had to buy FF8 again(yeah i know that's PS1)when playing it on my PS3 I got to disc 4 and it didn't work,you can't move your game saves across so i went out and bought a new copy of the game...I found out later the original game disc 4 actually still worked on my PS1 and 2 ..so now i have two copies of FF8...i never did get back to the game,LOL

so yeah,as i have just learnt with playing KOTOR on the 360,best to play the games on the original systems(IMO anyway)
