Since everyone loves them so, Irrational has put up a teaser site for their next game.  All it shows now is a grey blob surrounded by fog, but presumably it will slowly reveal something.  Irrational is supposed to announce the game August 11.

Hmmm, I don't know that much about Irrational, but for those who do, maybe the website that has the gray blob gives a clue in it's address:  http://whatisicarus.com/ ... ?

Yeah, I think attention was just getting drawn to the actual name of the site, rather than the linked "teaser site" text.

Icarus.... No clue.  Probably a red herring.

The codename for the game is "Project Icarus", but whether the name has any relevance to the game is unknown.  This also has to be the slowest reveal I've ever seen.  The image changes every day, but so far the dot has moved slightly and slightly changed shape a few times.  I don't really understand why they even bother to change it.

trying to think of a game series where the eighth game would be next.  hell, other than the final fantasy series or the ultima series, i can't think of any others that had that many sequels at all, certainly nothing that irrational would fit.

maybe more like the vertical infinity symbol, as people have theorized.  not sure what that means either.  oh well, they'll lead us by the crumbs until the decide to tell us outright or we just give up.

they've said 'new IP', so I wouldn't look at series.

Maybe it'll be The Brady Bunch: The Search for Alice.

Quote
BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter currently in development at Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock (which sold over 4 million units worldwide). Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky.

Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities

sounds neat. make it setampunk'ish imo

I loved every minute of exploring Rapture, and I can't wait to explore this new world they've created.  Gamespot has a first look at the demo.  According to the article, the Bioshock series is following the Final Fantasy way of making sequels.  Each game will have common elements, but will otherwise be distinct.  This part of the preview sounds especially intriguing -

In terms of gameplay, we were also intrigued by the hints of the choice mechanics on display: from the look of things you'll have to be managing how often you take up Elizabeth's offers of help. Given the apparent physical cost to her when she uses her abilities, we can imagine some less-than-ideal outcomes if she's overused.

I am surprisingly unimpressed for some reason.  I loved SS2 and BioShock, but this rings hollow to me.  But it is a very early look, so I'll reserve judgment for the time being.

from the demo preview it sounds like the civvies are normal until something changes them, then they go all children of the corn on you.  i hope there is some interaction though as it really gets old fighting by yourself all the time.  it would be great to have some locals in support and some kind of raging war instead of all-on-one.

You have a helper, which you can draw upon from time to time - her powers will drain her though, so you have to be carefull.

The big twist at the end? Either that, or the lovechild between you and the girl you are there to save. Its only 40 years before, so of course Ryan will be there.

the Titanic sank in 1912...shame it isn't a prototype for Rapture and under the sea again,we could of seen it fall to the bottom Tongue
