Aww, you almost had me thinking there was a new game coming. This is one of my all-time favorite games and I knew Activision would never be cool enough to make a new version.
This is probably worth the $6 to me. Even though I know I've bought several versions previously, I don't have to find a disc for this one is and I know it will work on this machine.

This is of course the D3D version that GOG has - the 3Dfx Glide version actually looked quite a bit better.

I saw something about using a glide wrapper to run it with glide. Didn't even know those still existed!

I've used a few with good success, but since I still have a legacy rig w/Voodoo5 I usually go with it. The wrappers are usually easy to tack down on any combat flight sim site. I'd be cool if the GOG I76 Arsenal had Glide support, but IIRC there was a patch that removed it.

I'm curious what resolutions it supports and if it can be run in a window if it doesn't do widescreen.

The launch option that shows up in my Start menu is Interstate '76 (glide), for what that's worth.

Smoove_B on OO reported that there's a glide wrapper included with the download. His post is below. You don't have to download a Glide wrapper -- GOG bundled an open source one with the game. I think you just need to add -glide to the game's shortcut to get it to work, though I haven't tried it.
It installed easily and I was able to play without a problem in WinXP with a joystick. Any reservations I had over the graphics were immediately erased when both of my front tires went flat and Groove said, "Uh...oh...." -- all of a sudden it was 1998.

Not had a problem playing it. I added the -glide to the shortcut. It locked it at 640 x 480 though. Still looks fine on my 20" lcs ws though. Without the -glide I could go up to 1024 x 768..but like glide better.

dear god... I loved the game, but I don't think I can do that. 1024x768... I still think I'll spend $6 to find out, but I'm just imagining this on a 24" ws monitor and the image isn't pretty.

I'm locked at 640x480 in glide, too.
I'm also getting very annoying rainbow artifacts glitches in the opening video and in the game.
It's kinda unplayable.

Well even though its 640x480 Im not seeing any grainy or pixilated stuff. The only problems I have are that when i hit the gas my top readouts kinda get half hidden off screen. the only other thing is when I fire my pistol out the side windows it kinda messes up the animation for that. Otherwise Im happy. I make Taurus read me poems

Ah, OK then.
I just couldn't pass it up. Even if it is pixelicious I love this game too much to not pay a paltry $6 to play it again.
I'76 ranks second in my all time favorite games.
Privateer ranks #1.

I've only played skirmish so far. Still relearning the game. I also need to set up my joystick to play and its putting me off. i suppose I should read the manual. BTW I saw somewhere how to run it in glide at 1680 x 1050 but now I cant find the article. And if I were to have an old Cuda and Foose fixed it for me I'd have it look just like Champion's car...well minus guns...maybe.

I played Interstate '76 back in high school and loved it! However, seeing the YouTube videos was disappointing. I can't go back to that. It's not just the graphics/porn music but also I expect much more freedom and options now. I used to think "WHY isn't there an updated I76? Think what they could do today!" every now and then for years.
In the fullness of time, I became the leader of the Great Northen tribe...and I76? It lives now only in my memories.

There's a car commercial on right now, I forget which company it's for (must not be very effective then), but they use this hyper-stylized cubist computer graphics look. Its really quite beautiful (especially whe the sun comes through). Everytime I see it, I dream about a new I76 looking like that. EDIT: Okay, it's the Honda Accord Crosstour.

Here's the forum thread where they discuss using DGVoodoo to run in higher resolutions using a Glide wrapper. I grabbed it and installed it into the game's folder but theres nothing different I can see. Still stuck at 640x480. i have no idea how to use the dgvoodoo I guess.

Not sure I could stomach the graphics now, but that game was great. Great.
Favorite mission was the one saving the kids on the school bus. If it took enough damage, you'd get a radio transmission from the driver saying "Oh my god...the children...they're buurrrrning" accompanied by screaming. Sometimes, I'd just start the mission to shoot the bus and hear that from the get-go.

It's working on my Win 7 x64. Somebody figured out a quick fix for the graphics issue. Disable Visual Themes and Desktop Composition in the properties and then (here's the weird part), right click on the desktop and open the Screen Resolution window. Then play the game. For some reason, leaving that window open makes it run fine.
