Nooooo! I would have preferred having Red Storm do the Xbox version. After seeing the use of ENGRISH in SC:PT I'm leery of the Shanghai studio.

I think the CG news item got it backwards. I remember reading somewhere that Red Storm was doing the Xbox and PC versions, and Shanghai Studios was doing the PS2, and GC versions.

From the PR Piece:

Quote
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon® 2 for PlayStation® 2 will be a completely different game from the XboxTM version, and the first title in the Tom Clancy franchise built exclusively from the ground up for PlayStation® 2. Ubisoft's Shanghai studio (creators of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® for PlayStation® 2) is developing the PlayStation® 2 game, while its Red Storm Entertainment development studio continues to focus on the XboxTM and PC versions.

Looks like Shanghai is doing the PS2 and Red Storm is handling the Xbox and PC.  Our bad!  All makey-fixey on the front page.  Thanks for pointing it out. smile

Thanks for fixing that, KD.  I just went to do so and it was already taken care of!  Must have just done it since the one in my browser was the "bad" one.

Sorry, guys, for causing any undue stress!

I dont know about this. This may still be an "oh geez" for me. I love Red Storm, but the fact that they are porting this over to Shangai could be bad. I dont like the looks of this.

Done and Done. slywink

As far as the PS2 release / Shanghai version is concerned; I don't care about it (as I can really only afford so much time for games) ... the Xbox / Red Storm release will do me fine.

The fact that the PS2 will be using the Unreal Engine and the Havok physics  rather than the proprietary GR2 engine doesn't impress me one bit. Once a Tango is down, he's down. I don't need to shoot his body slywink. I'm guessing they're going with the Unreal & Havok engines to circumvent having to develop the game any further than necessary; they have a relatively short timeline 'till market release.

The only thing the Shanghai office has ever released that impressed me was the SC:PT multiplayer game. ( I believe it was them)  The single player was on more obvious rails than the first Splinter Cell .... hell, at least Panzer Dragoon Orta had branching paths (and it was built for rails). The next logical step for SC was a less linear path to reach the mission destination; Ubi Shanghai missed the boat on that one.
