...and here is why:

I made it to the Marsh Refinery level about 5 days ago.  I was beset by showstopper bugs almost immediately.  Guys that wouldn't die, a cart that I couldn't board, and wounds that would not heal despite being at full health.

I reloaded and tried the game again from the beginning.  I made it to the Refinery level and I was able to at least heal.  After more than 3 hours of 'rubbing' against an invisible wall to board some ore carts I finally managed to get past this area.  Then the fun started...

I had several medkits when I got to the boss of this level.  I was close to death so I healed.  Despite the fact that I had 10 bandages, it used all of them and I still had a scratch on my arm, heavy breathing, and black and white vision.

I was very committed to completing this game so I could review it...for the last 4 days straight, no less than 3 hours per day, I've been trying to complete the level.  Bug after bug after bug.  I would pass out randomly.  I went insane several times and died although I was not seeing anything scary.  I had not used any morophine throughout the whole game so it wasn't that.  The game is just flat out and completely broken.  I've put in more hours on this game than it would take to complete it four times from beginning to end just trying to complete one sequence.  Unless Bethesda, Headfirst, or 2k comes forth with a cheat code to bypass this level, this post will spell the end of my time with this game.

I refuse to complete a game that they didn't bother to completely code and debug.   I have had more than enough.

Still review it, KD, just slam it.

You're really doing a disservice to consumers if you don't let them know how buggy the game gets.

I've giving Headfirst the chance to respond.  I need to calm a little bit (Haven't thrown a controller in years...*shakes head*) and then I'll put pen to paper, virtually speaking.  You are right LE...

<-- agreed. I find it frankly unbelievable that they didn't debug an entire level in all the time they worked on the game. Glad to hear it KD and I'm striking this one from my Christmas list.

Has this been reported elsewhere, or is the problem just KD's?

If you check the main boards, roughly 80% or more of the posts involve the Marsh Refinery.  This whole level is near unplayable, not due to challenge, but due to the sheer level of bugs.  I actually completed the level just once - you have to drag a pedestal to do an Indiana Jones-style puzzle...the beam went where it was supposed to, the sound of the door unlocking was heard, and the door remained sealed.  Talk about elation that I had finished the level, followed quickly by sheer and unbridled anger when I died in the room because I found another bug...

x2.

I don't think completing the game is necessarily a given in order to review it properly. It definitely sounds like you've given the title enough time and energy to offer a reasonable and informed opinion of it, even if you can't comment on the game past the point that you've gotten stuck. A player can breeze through a game from start to finish, and it doesn't mean that he or she can adequately score it *cough*IGN*cough cough*. The game is unplayable, and you've been shown that fact over and over again. A review of your time so far would be fair game, in my opinion.

I'd review it and let everyone know about this.  Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go trade in my copy while it still has a trade in value slywink

Look's like Edge might have been right in their review. Let's hope the PC version is fixed.

Yes, review it for sure. People need to know when a very buggy game is published.

What is with Bethesda published titles all sucking?

The games they develop are pretty good (but do have bugs), but my god the bug level on the games they publish is astounding. Don't you guys check the game over before you publish it, kathode?

I hope Oblivion isn't going to get the same treatment from your QA team....

With as long in the tooth as the game was, I'm sure there was pressure to kick it loose before the 360 launch.

Now, as to Bethsoft's titles sucking, I'm not worried about Oblivion.  Bethesda is developing that internally.  If you wanna look at the titles that suck, Call was done by Headfirst, and PotC was done by Akella.  Both of them are not only 3rd party, but outside of the country.  I'm sure that presents some...ahem...interesting challenges.

I just checked the boards and definitely don't see 80% of the posts relating to that level, though.  There's only one topic title that specifically mentions that level in the entire technical support forum on callofcthulhu.com.  Maybe you're looking at another forum?

Don't know what else to tell you, I didn't have a single thing to do with that game.  Hope you find something that works for you!

Did KD ever do a review on this or just blow it off? I am still tempted even though it might be broken.

Thanks KD

Based on what you said earlier, you were WAY too easy on it.

I guess it's cruel on the 7.0-9.0 scale, but come on... man up and start bitch-slapping some of these shitty games, with the sub-7 spectrum, guys.

Here is the issue LE - not everyone encountered the same issued I did.  There was a segment that did, but apparently I got the worst of it multple times.  Your mileage, in this case, truly may vary wildly.  I think my point was well made regardless of the score though.
