I have heard rumors that they aren't repairing but sending out refurbs.  I have my fingers crossed, I'll get an HDMI.

don't count on it.  i sent my non-HDMI unit back a couple months ago and they sent me back an old non-HDMI refurb.  interestingly, they seemed to have smartened up and stopped giving back refurb consoles that still have the original build date label.  when i sent my launch unit back about a year and a half ago, they replaced it with a modified unit built in 4/06...only 5 months newer than the one i sent back, and still with the same design flaw.  the console i got back from them last month is clearly a refurb because it's old non-HDMI hardware, but they put it in a newer case that now has a 'Serviced On' date printed directly on it rather than the original build date tag, and they transferred the serial number of my dead unit over to the 'new' one.  don't get your hopes up...you'll be getting back an old refurb...

It's just wishful thinking slywink

In other news, my coffin arrived today!

What's the difference that I get a label and you get a coffin?

Alright, coffin came yesterday and Purolator just picked it up.

I hope it doesn't take long, I have an unopened copy of Borderlands teasing me.

Got my replacement, non-hdmi ;(

Says Repair Date: 05-27-2009 instead of manuf. date.

I guess that means it's a refurb.

Yay.. Borderlands tonite.

Mine should be on a truck right now.  Unfortunately, as I'm not home, I'm going to have to go pick it up at some point.

Isn't there some sort of lemon law for consoles where if you have the exact same problem 3 times you can get a new unit rather than being handed someone else's used trash?

I was able to go get it from the shipment center tonight.  Nice UPS guy found my truck was back, then went to get it from said truck.  I even gave a compliment to the manager.

Gox my Box bax, played a few games of NHL 10, and promptly got promoted to first line.

Out of curiosity, have the Jasper units been significantly more reliable? Has there been any revision past Jasper?

Yeah, the turnaround was quite quick.  4 Business days from when I sent it, about 6 business days for the whole process.

This weekend my refurbed Gamestop 360 went all RROD icon_frown. Only 6 months after I bought it, so it's still under their Product Replacement Plan. Brought it to my local Gamestop where they know me like they are Sam and Woody and I'm Norm. I got a replacement 360 and a $20 credit since the current refurbished arcade units are that much cheaper that when I bought it. And, just to make it really nice, I got a new Product Replacement Plan that starts on today's date, rather than when I bought the first one. So this could go on for the next few years I guess  icon_biggrin

Dear distinguished members,

I forthwith submit my application to join your esteemed organization.  My launch box has finally passed on.  My master plan to jinx myself by mocking your members at every step has finally come to fruition.  I shall be purchasing a new machine to keep the dream alive that I may someday enter the multiple RROD club.

Good day.

Mine went the way of the non-video path and was way out of warranty.  I ended up getting an arcade that should arrive today or tomorrow.  I was planning on just putting the HD from the first one into the new one, is there any other steps I'm going to have to jump through to get this to work?

Not much.  You'll have to sync your old controllers to the new system.  You'll have to redo any customized account settings (notifications, auto login, background download, etc.).  Then if you want to play any of your downloaded games offline, you'll want to transfer your licenses over.  You can find the steps for that at xbox.com.  I think it's easier if you register the console there first.  Oh, and make sure your jot down your serial number and console id.  I don't know why there are two numbers, but you'll need both at some point.

If you used media center extender, you'll probably have to set that up again.  Good luck.

Boo. My 360 just RROD'ed. I've had it since 11/06/07 without issue. I played Portal tonight and I got the grey/white checkerboard, followed by the RROD (3 lights) on reboot. I had purchased a 2 year warranty at Best Buy, which meant my extended warranty expired 11/09. Luckily, since it's the RROD, I get a bonus year, so evidently I get a free repair on this guy. Now I just have to find/buy a box.

Ha-ha - agreed, well done!  They should at least send you back a new Jasper unit for that.  Yeah, I know it's not gonna happen, but you still deserve it, imo.   nod

Well, While playing portal 2 with my brother, it locked up.  We rebooted to be greeted to 3 red rings.  Turned it off for awhile, and turned it back on and it works.  After dealing with dvd reading errors, and now this, I'm on borrowed time.

You think the prices will be lowered by E3?

I have no idea about E3 (yup, I'm ignorant) - but I'm curious about your Fraternity membership... was this a launch unit?  If so, I'd get a lottery ticket, because you are very, very lucky!  I am too, imo, since I had two launch units working well for about 5 years.  When they started to fail, it was one part here, one there - like HD on one of them, console on the other.  I gave one of the HD's to a GT member, but I still have two "dead, or dead-ish" consoles that I thought I might take a stab at fixing.  Luckily, I won't have to deal with that, because I just found out that a nephew of mine no longer has any video games in his life, so I'm giving them to him for whatever might work to get him another gaming system - he can tinker with them, sell on eBay,etc., it doesn't matter to me; it will be two pieces of "stuff" that gets cleared out of my house!

Btw, for awhile, one of the failing consoles wouldn't play games - but would act as a DVD player, so if you are short of those...   icon_wink

If the recent Wii price drop makes a dint on the market, I'm predicting the 360 price will be lowered by E3, or shortly thereafter.

I had a launch 360 that 3 ringed last spring.   I sent it back and got a replacement.    Yesterday i got the 2 ring error.   I've read that the 2 rings is an overheating issue.   However, i've tried letting it cool several times since yesterday and it will immediately 2 ring after maybe 10 minutes of play.

Will Microsoft repair/replace this?   Thinking i might just replace it with a new unit myself soon.   Buy an arcade console and put my hard drive with it.

This one is a replacement from my original xbox 360 which also had the 3 rings of death.

Suprisingly it works right now.  Just waiting till it really dies.

I had a two-ring error a few years ago, all it required was resetting the cables and cords.  I can't remember, but I think it was two different colors, maybe orange-and-something.

Complements of Llamma.com - more than you ever wanted to know about ring codes and links on how to fix them - some repairs are easy, some are more "complex and scary."  If your 360 is old and broken and you are tired of talking to MS, that might be a good time to give these a shot.

Unbelievably, I still have a launch 360 and it continues to work fine after all these years and plenty of use. At this point I'm starting to wish it would fail just to get a newer, quieter one. Every time I turn it on I expect it to fail.
