Square Enix has finally announced the Japanese release date for Final Fantasy 12 - March 16, 2006     If the delays have been caused by gameplay issues, it's possible the script is pretty far along, and if so, they could be working on the English localization during that time, and have a simultaneous US/Japanese release.  If not, it looks like we'll be waiting awhile.  This might be a good thing, though.  If other developers are no longer afraid to release RPGs next year for fear of competing with FF12, it might help ensure US releases of games like Shadow Hearts 3 and the recently-announced Tales of The Abyss.

Can't say I'm surprised.  Ever since E3 when they mentioned being able to play FF12 on the PS3 through backwards compatability I felt pretty sure we wouldn't be seeing it until the second half of 2006.

Oh lordy.. The thought of me being able to buy a PS3 before getting FF12 for PS2 is somehow... not right.

I hope you're right about Shadow Hearts 3 having a stronger possibility of release over here, though.

IGN and Gamespot have impressions of the new demo.  Also, RPGamer has some new scans.

After reading those impressions, I'm just as excited as ever.  The battle mechanics sound plenty interesting and I particularly liked that that enemies fight among themselves on occasion.
