I'm preloading Day of Defeat: Source right now

I bought the Half-Life Silver package a year or so ago because I wanted the Source version of DoD.  Well the damn thing is finally preloading!

Time to fire up Steam and get that baby ready for Sept 26th!  We need to get some CG DoD action going!

How do I know if it's pre-loaded?  Steam was running on my computer, but I see no indication that DOD pre-loaded.

You might have to restart Steam.  I had a pop-up that gave me a button to click on it to preload.  Or else you can go to your Play Games list, right-click on DoD Source and select Pre-loading Status.  That will give you the option to preload it.

They won't send you the preload unless you specifically ask for it.  I think they learned their lesson with Counterstrike: Condition Zero.

Check out your play games menu and double click the DoD:Source one - I think it probably depends on your settings.  

I'm preloaded and ready to re-live the DoD glory days I had 3 years ago!

Well, they're not charging for it if you had gotten the Silver or Gold package a year ago.

I think I paid for this back on HL2's release.  Today, I'm not so sure why I did.  I never really understood/enjoyed the first DoD... why would I buy the second?

Played for about an hour - just need to do some research for a project now.

But it's awesome.  It seriously reminded me back when I used to play all the time.  Plus an even more heightened sense of warfare.  Grenades hit, your screen gets blurry, that MG over the hill is there, "fire in the hole!", gogogo, cap that flag!

Just plain awesome!!  Can't wait to play even more tonight!!  Now I need to get some work done, blarg.

Oh, and the servers are getting slammed with people.  That's a good thing in some respects.  Not so good for latency/ping

Took awhile to get it decrypted/updated, but after about 30 min, I was able to hop on.

And was surprised to see good 'ol Avalanche!  WITH a few tricks up it's sleeve!  Some cool alterations to that as well as Anzio.  Looks great.

Gotta get used to the weapons.  They got rid of the carbine for the Allies  That makes me sad.  It was the only Allied weapon I was decent at.  Never liked the Garand, nor the Bar or Thompson.  The Bar is pretty cool - you can switch between automatic and semi-automatic.  That may be the gun I'm gonna have to use...

Cool new stuff, though.  That weird grenade-launcher gun...very interesting.  You can shoot one at the ground, pick it up and toss it so it blows up at exact moment you want it to, pretty cool.  I've already waited a bit too long and had it blow up in my face, soooo gotta work on that.

HOPEFULLY the DoD community GROWS with Source now out.  Personally, I like it bajillions more times than Counter-Strike - you actually get to play and the objectives are a lot more team-oriented.

The pings are super high today, hopefully it cools down by the end of the week

The grenades go POP as well, that's cool.

So far, after playing a few rounds, I am impressed. It was fun, great graphics and the sound is top notch!

As did I  That sucks.  Since it's with the bazooka, that class probably doesn't get anything cool like the smoke grenade or knife or anything, does it.  I'm gonna go play/check!  Thanks!

I was allllll about my "Tommy Gun" (i.e. the Thompson) for the Allied.  Though, I really have to get used to the recoil now with Source.  Seemed a bit more, well, kick'ey.

Yep, the grenades are fun.  I'm impressed so far with the overall product!

So noone else had this issue...

 I purchased it, configed it , played it...all smooth. Good fun. Then I turn off my PC, grab a beer, say goodnight to the wife and loo forward to playing this for a few hours...........................Steam says it`s updating..............then it takes 5 minutes to get steam up...then it gives me a error saying my account is bad or something or other...then I try again and it says it`s starting dod:s...but it never does...I try to shutdown steam it says it can`t until i shut down the steam apps...I look in task manager and there`s NOTHING running! I shut down my pc and it say steam stopped responding, and I click end task now...and then I watch my pc sit at "saving your settings" for 30!!!MINUTES!!!and nothing. Then I did the only thing I could, and what I love to do... :roll: Press the reset button on my pc. FUN! :roll: ARGGGHHHHH!!!


 Sorry about the venting, but sheeesh. I`m not alone either, my buddy that works at eb, same thing...look at steam forums...lots of it going around. :twisted:  :evil: !

I like it so far, but its too fast, the latency is pretty bad, there aren't enough maps, and the stationary MGs are still too powerful. However, its still a ton of fun, and I hope we get more maps soon, because when it gels its fantastic.

Still having a hard time finding a class I prefer for the allies.  I used to always pick the class with the kar, but the only way to get it is to be the bazooka class, and the kar only comes with 2 clips, what's up with that!  And you get a knife.  So once those two clips are gone, you're pretty much a sitting duck.

The rifleman, eeeh I just don't know.  I've never liked the garand and I have to pump like, 3-4 shots into a guy before he dies in DoD:S with it, I mean, I've killed a guy with one shot with it, but I don't know.  The bar is kind of neat.

Axis-side, I've always loved the riflemen with the k98.  It seems less powerful now.  On the official forums, people are bitching and moaning (much like me), but it was pretty ridiculously overpowering in 1.3, so just gotta get used to it, I guess.  Automatic weapons seem to rule DoD:S, which kind of sucks, but once we get a Caen or the map with the long bridge, rifles will rule once again!

I don't know.  It's a bit of a different game, even though it retains it's DoD-ness.

The K98 is near unusable now, as are pretty much anything with iron sights because the zoomed mode is a little buggy and you seriously cannot move almost at all zoomed.

I like the Garand personally-I had good luck with it yesterday and it only took a few shots to kill with it, but it might be the type of weapon that is easier to use on servers with little latency.

Auto weapons do seem to rule though.

I was having a ball with a stolen K98 on Avalance tonight. Yes, the Iron Sights view is funky, and the accuracy is slightly decreased. BUT, it still kills in one shot far more often than the Garand does, and you don't actually have to use the iron sights to make long range shots. It kills just fine unzoomed.

But I'll agree that the autos, particularly the Thompson and the MP40 both rule a couple of the maps. dod_flash, in particulary, seems to favor the assault classes. I went forty-something and 11 earlier and led in flag caps on that map using only the Thompson.

Never used to be able to do crazy stuff like that in DoD.
