My willpower to keep the PS4 order has weakened a bit as the games are going to look better on PC and the console exclusives aren't nearly as enticing as I once thought. I still think the PS4 is a better fit for me than the XB1, but were they to announce a PC port of Infamous, I'd have little reason to keep one at all.  I have some interest in the Vita streaming but haven't got one yet.

would I swap over to XB1? I've no interest in Forza or Ryse. I think a port of DR3 is highly likely in 6 months or so.  Titanfall is on PC.  I lost interest in Halo half way through 4 (sorry Kathode) and I have no interest in Kinect 2.0. I've also cancelled my cable TV sub as of this month and will be going streaming all the way.  yeah, the tv stuff is different enough to stand out from the crowd, but if it all runs off the cable sub, it does me no good.

I've decided to cancel both of my preorders. This appears to be the first time that the new console generation will have graphics trailing significantly behind the PC market. Previously the PC played catch up for a short period of time. I'm disappointed by this small upgrade over last generation. Some of these release games aren't even in 1080p. Sad.

meanwhile, I have an Alienware HTPC which runs everything at 1080p with all the added bells and whistles. So I'll see no jump in visuals with the next gen consoles compared to what I'm already accustomed to.

I'm looking forward to the launch fanfare, but I can wait until after Christmas for an actual purchase.

I don't recall any time that consoles had better graphics than PC.  Maybe it had better graphics than your PC due to an inferior video card compared to the console.

Consoles have traditionally always jumped a year or two ahead of PCs in graphics with every new generation, despite not necessarily being equally powerful when it comes to direct hardware comparisons. Every console generation tends to start with shouts of "PC gaming is dead!" until the end of the generation when it's "PC gaming is king!" instead. By summer, they'll be shouting that PC gaming is dead again.

Actually, they might not. The PC hasn't been this well treated by publishers since the 90s, whereas they've been doing their best to bury the PC every previous generation.

Put in some work, pre-orders are not needed.

Got my PS3 at launch, girl at Gamestop called me to sell me the console.  Need details?  Use your imagination....

X360, got off the shipping truck at Circuit Shitty 3 days after launch from a dude I went to high school with.

Not worth bothering now though, gonna wait a year, non backward compatible fucktardness....

Nothing against you Fumble, you did what you had to do and I'm down with that.

However, this sort of thing pisses me off from retailers.    I remember back to the 360.   I camped outside a Bestbuy in 33 degree rain overnight and came up empty handed.    I did the same thing with Sears, who said they were getting 20 units in.    I was 10th in line.    We all camped in the cold and then that morning some real jerk came out and announced they had ZERO units.    He was aggressive (overly) and defensive right from the get-go.    We could all tell he was outright lying.    Those slime balls took those units for themselves and put them on ebay and we all knew it.

I eventually got disgusted enough to game the system myself.   I bought a $1000 bundle from Walmart after finding out that all the individual parts were packaged separately.     I then went to my local walmart and returned all the extra pieces individually.

Close to canceling my PS4 preorder.

Strongly leaning to keeping my XB1 preorder.

Same.. although my PS4 preorder was for resell value I think the market will be saturated and little to no money will be made

yeah, that right there is why I pre-order now.  even if it takes a little longer to arrive, I don't have to deal with the hassle of freezing my ass off for the privilege of maybe getting a system, not to mention that I don't have the option to call in sick or sleep in afterwards.

Just a gut feeling... also it might be my guilt creeping up on me.  I know a few other people trying to do this as well

Don't let guilt hit you on reselling.   I'm much more angered by people getting favors from insiders and friends than people legitimately buying and selling their preorders.

Also, it is months before Japan gets their launch.   The PS4 will be reselling for insane amounts of $$

just think of all those orphans who may not get their PS4 because you grabbed it to resell it.  they already lost their parents, don't make them lose their PS4  icon_twisted

at least none of us are pre-ordering in Brazil.  the prices there:

PS4: R$3,999 ($1,849.85 USD)
XB1: R$2,199 ($924.69 USD)

poor Brazilians.

So, good thing you didn't preorder via Target:

http://kotaku.com/looks-like-target-is-canceling-ps4-preorder-bundles-for-1448163984

Quote
Watch Dogs and Driveclub, two high-profile games planned for release alongside the PS4 and Xbox One, have both seen fairly last-minute delays into next year. However, both of those games had been included in next-gen console preorder bundles. Two readers inform us that today, Target canceled not just their game preorder, but their console preorder as well.

Note the bit at the end, where they inform him that preorders will re-open next week on October 25, on a "first come, first served basis." Salt in the wound, that is.

Wow, what jerks they are over this. Especially that end bit.

Yeah, and that's why I do big online retailer, or game/electronics specific retailers. The big ones have really good tracking on this stuff, they have to being online. The game/electronics retailers are experienced with this sort of thing.
