Like this?

Having the Kinect control your other devices, incl. your receiver, TV and cable / DVD /BD players etc

Kinect, turn on PS4. smile

in my case I'd rename the Ps 'blu ray player'.

Besides, I doubt the PS4 responds to IR input. The PS3 didn't, though there was an after-market adapter.

I cancelled my pre orders as well.  Not because of all of the fanboi crap.  Both consoles have their pluses and minuses and being rabid about a brand seems particularly silly to me.  Nope, I cancelled because Ill be on short term disability after reconstructive surgery on my left foot/ankle.  Theres nothing like trying to live off half your pay for 2 months to help get your financial priorities straight.

Yeah, but it was a big gripe for a lot of people, and they do seem to be listening this time around.

I really hope they put one in.

Still have mine as well. I seriously don't see Sony having a price drop for at least a couple of years anyways and I'll definitely get one before then.  Might as well get in on the excitement at the beginning!

This is my perspective. It's not going to be cheaper any time soon, I'd rather have one in the beginning while there's an air of excitement.

I know getting both consoles is not an option money-wise.

I know getting neither console is not an option - I'm too much of a tech geek who loves to ride the hype train.

I know no matter which console I choose, at some point I'll regret not getting the other one instead.

So my best bet at this point is to weigh the pros and cons, decide on one, and stick with it.

MetallicOrphan posted this link:

Now I'm worried that the console games are about to become a lot more expensive. Anyone have links to confirmed MSRP for Xbone and PS4 game prices?

Amazon shows games for 60USD. Phew.

Here is something that I hope works well on the XB1, Xbox Fitness  http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/games/xbox-fitness .  Not going to claim it is the end all be all, I just want a fitness program with kinect that can do a good job of tracking my movement and provide various workouts.

Not a fan of the fitness thing. Another subscription for my Xbox..no thanks.

Anyway, cancelled my Xbox One preorder. Still have my PS4 preorder. I came to the realization that the two games I wanted on Xbox One, Ryse and Dead Rising 3, are getting not so hot impressions. Not interested in Forza and all the multipat games that I want: AC4, Watch Dogs, BF4.....will have exclusive things for the PS4 and look better on the PS4. It just made no sense to get the XB1 at this time.

Yep, I'm really excited about this. Fitness games are the one thing I really did use my Kinect 1.0 for on a regular basis and enjoyed quite a bit.

With everybody going PS4 because it focuses on games, that's the one thing that is turning me off. I've already got a box that does nothing but play games, it's called my PC. I'm getting more and more interested in the ways my console can complement my PC, not become an inferior replacement for it.

??? At one point there were some negative impressions, but Ryse (*gasp new IP!*) was solid at E3, and from what even Kotaku was saying recently (link earlier in this thread - it was their "worried about Kinect" article) they're loving both DR3 and Ryse.

A while back some people missed out on the combat interface and thought everything was QTE (Kotaku especially)- which it never truly was.

http://gamingtrend.com/2013/06/12/ryse-son-of-rome-might-be-the-killer-app-that-saves-the-xbox/

It won our E3 best game on Xbox One, and was nominated for biggest surprise (PvZ FPS took that one).

I'm not trying to sell you on an Xbox one, but if that is the pivot point for you, I think you might be mistaken. We've got another 8 weeks to go. Both of those games are in my preorder list.

I haven't seen the talk about Dead Rising, but from what I understand, the negativity about Ryse isn't just about the gameplay. I believe the game was recently confirmed to be running at 720p 30fps, which is truly disappointing for what is supposed to be an example of next-gen gaming. Not only that, but the poly count for the main character appears to have been halved since E3 (the numbers were shared during two individual presentations), which is quite worrying.

Ryse may turn out ok,  but it's certainly gotten a lot of negative impressions beyond that kotaku article.  The multiplayer showed quite poorly at pax and spawned several gifs making fun of it.

I'm just saying until it gets released, it's all anecdotal.  We've seen the same in previews for past gen games and on release it ended up not being true most of the time.

Well, the exclusive part is not made up at all. AC4 and Watch Dogs will both have exclusive Playstation content.

As for the "look better" part....there has been plenty of recent talk/articles that have gone into some depth about: the Xbox Ones recent driver woes, Ryse being downgraded from 1080p to 900p and reduced triangle/poly count, Dead Rising 3's frame rate problems, Watch Dogs being 1080p on the PS4 and while they are not sure about the Xbox One version. IMO, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to combine these stories with the PS4's confirmed more powerful hardware and come to the conclusion that, for the most part, the PS4 version of multiplatform games will be the graphically definitive console version of the game.

Yeah, the reviews coming out of PAX were not good at all. Ryse has so much potential and I want so much to like it...but I think the fact that they turned it from a Kinect Only game into a gamepad game really hurt it. It just should have been made as a gamepad only game from the start, instead of having it shoehorned in.

*sigh*

Not a big deal. It may run at 30, but it'll run at a solid 30FPS, at 1080p, with a great deal of effects.

You probably couldn't build a PC for $500, let alone $400, that guns these games at 1080p with the same graphical fidelity and gameplay.

And a lot of games of your childhood and recent years ran at 30FPS. It is not a big deal. Also, Framerate is a decision from the developer, and not indicative of a consoles power, for either one.

I'd rather have a new gen with the same FPS, but a larger, more interesting world and gameplay, than the same gen's gameplay and graphics, but higher FPS. But hey, with some games we actually get both.

I suppose if you're looking for MP Ryse, I have not an iota of experience with it, nor have I been following the MP portion - I just don't care enough about that part of the experience.

The single player experience was what I was looking for, and the combat was fantastic. It felt natural and smooth, and the storyline compelling.

That's my whole point - so much emphasis has been placed on frame rates that don't actually matter. That's where you're going to see the biggest difference between the console cross-platform titles, and unless you're playing them side by side chances are it's going to be irrelevant.

PS4 version will run at a higher resolution, better effects....expect this to be the new normal for this gen.   icon_confused

Why are you linking to old articles, one of which confirms what Hetz is saying? Both versions ran at 720p at the demonstration, but it was confirmed that the final PS4 version will run at a higher resolution, while 720p is final for Xbox One.

While that's strange and a little disappointing, I think it's more indicative of early  cross gen development then console power, for both systems since both won't be native 1080 from the sound of that quote.

Well, the XB1 for sure won't. It's limited to 720p. The devs are saying that it is running higher than 720p on the PS4 right now and they are still optimizing it so, who knows, it may be native 1080p. The only thing we know for sure is that it will run at a higher res than the XB1.

All of this is very perplexing though, given the "infinite" power of the cloud on the XB1!  icon_twisted

We do not know that for sure. Did you read the update in that article? The dev said they were aiming for the same framerate and resolution on both consoles.

Of course if you want the definitive version of the game, you'll buy the PC version which Dice has confirmed will look better than either console.

Yes, unfortunately the have been rumors of forced downgrades on PS4 versions of some games, so as not to embarrass M$. Politics suck.

Anyway....there is no way the XB1 version is anything other than 720p. They have the Ps4 version running higher than that now, but could be forced to gimp it. That is what they are talking about in that update.

Why are you making this personal? Honest question.

You may still be happy with your preorder of the XB1...good for you! I was not, hence why I cancelled it. I'm sorry that my comments on some legit news that is being discussed extensively today on other forums is upsetting you. Or are we not supposed to be bring up information on the new consoles....so that everyone can be happy? I think people would like to know all the facts before throwing down $500 or $400.

I think everybody here probably knows by now that the PS4, from a hardware perspective on paper, is more powerful than the Xbox One. Nobody knows how big that difference is going to be in the real world, or if it will even make a difference at all for cross-platform titles.

Then there's the fact that not everyone is basing their purchasing decision on frame rates or resolutions. Based on past console wars, that's probably one of the least important things to base a decision on. If there is a killer exclusive that you want to play and can't play on any other device, the resolution it runs at is completely irrelevant.
