http://pc.ign.com/articles/695/695377p1.htmlAcclaimed role-playing game developer BioWare announced today its first venture into the world of online role-playing with the revelation that the company has begun work on a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) title at is newly-opened studio in Austin, Texas. Very little information other than the announcement that they are working on something.

Hmmm, if Blizzard can do it then I guess Bioware can pull it off too. Quite, honestly, Blizzard needs some viable competition out there. They are pretty much top dog now since the game released

If it's good, I'll play it. It's really as simple as that. For the most part, I like the Bioware stuff. They could be a little different and go with some type of asian-themed MMO or maybe a sci-fi type thing. I'm not sure if Tolkien or D&D type stuff would still fly, but who knows. When you think about it, how many genres are there really? Cyberpunk could be cool too, or like a modern day spy/espionage type game.
Hmm... perhaps I should read the article.

How about a single player RPG from Bioware?
None of us knew it at the time, but BG 2 was the end of an era. RIP single player PC isometrics. Now the whole genre is one massive online grind.
Maybe Dragon Age and Mass Effect will save us.

Oh boy! A MMORPG! Because I was just thinking that the other day, how we don't have enough of those yet. Here's to hoping we'll also be getting some FPS' set in WW2, while we're at it.

Canadian videogame developer BioWare Corp. has announced the opening of a new studio, BioWare Austin, based in Austin, Texas. It is the second of BioWare's studios and the first to be located outside of Canada. BioWare Austin has already begun work on a Massively Multiplayer Online roleplaying game (MMORPG) title; the new game will mark BioWare's debut in the Massively Multiplayer Online space. BioWare has recruited some of the top talent in MMO and RPG development, both to manage the development efforts at BioWare Austin and to collaborate with the experienced team at BioWare Edmonton, to develop a game that combines the best of BioWare's great past games with a compelling persistent online experience. Joining the Austin team as lead designer is James Ohlen, BioWare's Creative Director, whose previous credits include lead or co-lead design roles on Star WarsŪ: Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. Also leading the BWA team are MMO veterans Richard Vogel and Gordon Walton. Richard Vogel brings 15 years of experience to BioWare Austin, previously serving as VP of Product Development for Sony Online Entertainment's Austin studio, as well as launching Ultima Online as a senior producer at Origin. Gordon Walton recently served as VP, studio manager and executive producer at Sony Online Entertainment as well as VP and Executive Producer at Electronic Arts.
"BioWare is committed to a seamless collaboration between our two studios to ensure the same high standards of quality and creativity our dedicated teams have always delivered," said Ray Muzyka, co-founder and Joint CEO of BioWare. "With our extensive heritage in the roleplaying genre, BioWare Austin is extremely well positioned to innovate in the massively multiplayer online space for BioWare's valued community of fans."

Who did they 'assimilate' down in Texas? ...
I would imagine it would be difficult to find a handful of Canadians who would be interested in relocating to Texas
Talk about culture shock
