I just saw a Video on PSN Home (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/891/891773/vids_1.html) if this is all true, and free, I am in for a PS3. I really have not been following the PS3 much, because the lack of interesting titles that I cant get on the 360.  But this Home is a whole different ball game. Any of you PS3 owners out there have any more information, or a first hand preview of how well this willis working out on the system.

edit to fix link

er..was that link to go to a release schedule?,cos thats what i got

anyway,i am still waiting for this page to activate
http://www.homebetatrial.com/

its been like that for 2 months now

i am looking forward to it,but my guessing is that i will prolly get bored after a week or two...some of the features are great if they work(like playing videos from your HDD/PSP memory card on in HOME bravia TVs)

i am wondering how it will work actually,i am sure the space for everyone is a little to small, even if it has got cinemas and arcade gallery and such...will there be a limit on numerous servers?...i wish they would release more info about it actually

Why exactly are you interested in Home?  I think it's a cool concept, not my cup of tea, but certainly interesting to many others.  I like how it doesn't replace the XMB, instead it adds to it providing a more casual interface to the console.

Yes, it'll be free as it's supposed to be Sony's answer to Live.  Besides home itself, there's supposed to be the new firmware, number 2.0 with new features and functionality, along with smoothing the whole multiplayer gaming process on the PS3.  I think they wanted to replace the PSN store too with something more console friendly rather than a website stuck onto a console.

How they plan to pay for it is via marketing.  Xbox live sells all those ads on the console, but now so can Sony in Home, so it's very possible for this to happen without a fee.

Guess I'm in the minority but I just don't get they hype of Home. It looks like a fancy looking Second Life for the PS3. I don't see anything practical(this is the key word for me) it adds to the experience of playing games, and experiencing other content. I just want a quick, easy and again practical interface for my system. I could care less about having a Sims  style home to populate with a bunch of virtual stuff.

It could be great, it could suck.  If it works, I could see GT game night.  Everyone meets at KD's crib.  He's got some preview videos playing on some of the screens, some recaps of the last sessions on the others.  People can chat while waiting for others to arrive.  Maybe he's got a couple of arcade games, pool tables and chess boards set up.   There's a recorded session from Rock Band playing in the background.  Fool is selling some custom GT shirts in the corner.  WBS is bragging about his new Little Big Planet level so a group pops off to take it for a test run and report back.  That could be cool.

Or it could be a bunch of thirteen year olds running around yelling homosexual slurs and teabagging everyone who lags out.  That seems more likely. paranoid

Hrothgar, I think you described what I think will happen with Home to a tee. Either it'll work out perfectly, or it, well, will become what Live chat usually is.

I hope this turns out better than it looks; I'm not seeing a lot of appeal to me at this time.

Yep - I did a recap on the front page that synopsizes all of Krazy Ken's speech and that was one of the bullets.  Sad but true.  I think it could be neat if I could set up a place to show my trophies from games - it'd be like visual achievements. biggrin

You know, you probably could if a future action game was particularly gory.

Isn't that the point though?
Games aren't productive, they're a waste of time in general.

It's a free service.  If you don't like it, don't use it.  This isn't a replacement for the XMB.   If you chose simplicity then, there ya go.
Some people will completely dig Home though.
If it wastes 20 seconds of my time while I wait for some friends to hop on Warhawk or UT3 I got my $0.00s worth.

I never understood why people hate on Home.  It's like being offered a bag of Cheetos and instead of saying no thanks, shouting "Cheetos Suck!!"

+1

People just like to hate on the PS3.  I've never seen so many people upset that Sony is bring back the rumble feature.  Some people just like to complain.

I think they are saying that Home is a waste of Sony's time, not their own.

and I agree with 'em.  I think that they need a system that complements their games rather than creates some goofy virtual world that the games are in.
