the open beta starts for this today, and figured it probably deserved it's own thread instead of being rolled into League of Legends (apparently it wasn't even in the thread title according to search).

anyways, here's the beta page and it's supposed to start at 4pm EST although the countdown leads me to believe it's been delayed.

Really needs Kossack now to pimp in this thread I'll be interested to see how it develops - personally I think the game will now start bleeding it's player base. I don't think they will get many new people on board and the model won't help the developers in moving forward unless they release expansion packs which I can't really see happening. If I was the devs I'd have kept a portion of the game open like lol where they have random x heroes available each week - then again they may not want people to see the player base the game has accumulated

While the game looks cool, I've already played a bunch of LoL so I have a stable of heroes unlocked. Combined with the weekly free ones I have a good selection to choose from so I doubt I would drop the $30 for HoN at this point unless they offer stuff like the leagues before LoL gets theirs going.

Yes I think it's more a term for moving to competitive play. Because of the pain of Randoms in play I don't tend to hit ranked much if at all

They are quite different. LOL is more team based, Hon is team based but individuals can have a greater affect. As LOL is easier to understand I would definitely recommend that first and it's F2P - and genuinally so

I'm a bit slow seeing the threads cause I don't check the forums everyday. Unfortunately I haven't played HoN for few months now (but of course HoN is the best DotA game ever:)) so I don't know what is happening there currently. Sometimes I'm tempted to go back again, but no, enough of it, I'll wait for DotA 2 from Valve. Unless Diablo 3 will come out sooner (at least beta is imminent) - then I guess I can delete all other games

hehe I hate to hijack a thread but the latest user figures in LOL were mindblowing. 15 million registered (EU and US only!!) 500,000 online at peak. 4 million playing a month

Hon is now going F2P surprise surprise but as a person who does own Hon i'm not sure it will make that much difference - hope it does though, more than enough space for more than 1 big player in the market
