I'm only slightly excited about Hellgate. I'm worried how well the game will play in 3rd person since I can't play any game in 1st person mode. It seems that while it's not a FPS, the key perspective is in 1st person. It made Oblivion harder to play and less enjoyable...and I'm concerned the same will hold true here.

It's quite amazing that I know so little about this game. I must have read something at some point that I thought didn't sound fun, so I dismissed it as one of those "popular" games I won't play.
But that story/hands on was a great read. I will keep my eye on it a bit more now.

From the previews, it's sounding like the design is intended to be comfortable from both 1st & 3rd person perspective. Hopefully that works out right; it's a great idea but could flop in execution. I'm so insanely stoked for this game, have been for over a year now! Crazy. I hate waiting sometimes. |

Basically they worked hard on both the 1st person and 3rd person views. The first person would be for shooting, the third person would be there for melee.

How come the graphics look progressively worse each time we see the game? And could the interface look more like Guild Wars (which I would not be surprised if this game played a lot like).

I'm suspicious of any game which tries to claim all the guys working on it were the sole reason Diablo/Warcraft/Starcraft/whatever did so well. John Romero tried doing that too, and look at what classics his games turned out to be.

I don't think they're quite making that claim, but they do actually have a solid chunk of the core of the old Blizzard North team. But I agree: that doesn't mean instant success. I just want to see this game turn out well because I love the concepts behind it and it could be a metric ass-ton of entertainment for me.  |
