I've never used headphones for gaming before and due to family circumstances I have to more now-a-days. With the DS4 having a headset out port, I've been using my iPhone earpods and absolutely loving playing games this way.  I feel like I'veb been missing all of these little sounds this whole time.  I even heard bees buzzing on some plants in AC4!  I know that the official playstation headsets don't work yet, but wondering what every else uses out there for their consoles?  I'm thinking this might be my preferred way to play going forward.

for my last gen console(360) i use Turtle beach X11s

very basic and old model now,but i love them to death

Had i known,i would of got a TB XP model (Xbox and PS3)

I love playing COD with them, they are very handy especially Ghosts because everyone have Mickey Mouse Clown Feet,so i can hear them coming a mile away(and i really need to make level 26 so i can take off those shoes myself)

When i get the new consoles i will wait a while(well have to anyway as TB haven't got a pair out yet)hopefully an XP set will be made available

Using my X11's on my PS4 through the optical out and the DSS box.  basically getting stereo surround out of them and it's pretty damn awesome.  like you said, you hear details you missed beforehand, and in mp games, especially CoD, it's a huge advantage being able to hear them coming before they hear you

I've always loved Steel Series, though I don't have a pair at the moment. My NOX Audio ones broke, I msg'd them and got no reply - so I'm going to go ahead and recommend you NOT go in that direction. Tongue

I love my Astro headphones for gaming.  A headphone amp vastly improves sound for headphone use in any application, and the "Mixamp" one that they bundle with their headsets works great and has plenty of inputs.

Still rocking a pair of Tritton Pros here. The cord broke on my AX720s so someone in my Battlefield crew sent me his old Pros for nothing a year or more ago now.

Do all the headsets you guys are referring to just draw power from the cord (not really sure if that's how they work) or do you have to charge them like the controllers?

Wireless headphones need batteries of some sort, wired do not. Wired headphones do get the power they need just from the audio cord, but they can only get so much power that way. That's where a headphone amp comes in handy--it requires batteries or a power cord and it gives extra 'oomph' to the signal the headphones get.

FYI, I just saw that this Turtle Beach headset will be on sale for Amazon Black Friday week in about an hour.  No personal experience, but it looks well reviewed.

2.4/5GHz Dual-Band Wi-Fi

the dual band is a big plus if you use wifi in your house.  My Turtle Beach uses 2.4GHZ, which is the same band my router uses, and if other people are using other wireless devices while I have the headset on I usually get all kinds of crackling and popping noises from interference.

That's interesting that you can get the X11s to work on the PS4,means i can stick with them for a while longer
