I'm going to include the offshoots because some of them are too epic not to...

I started late with Heart of the Tiger and beat that, Price of Freedom, and Prophecy.   I skipped past and nabbed Privateer 2 (loooooved it!), but that's all the space flight I've gotten.

Wing Commander
Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi
Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger
Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom
Wing Commander Prophecy
Wing Commander Armada
Wing Commander Arena
Privateer
Privateer 2: The Darkening

First 3.  LOVED that series.

Forgot about privateer. Never finished it, but played it.

1-2, and Privateer which I loved.

Don't think I played Wing Commander 4 or Prophecy. By the time those came out the space sim thing was wearing thin. Hadn't played Privateer 2 either and always wanted to try that one.

Wing Commander
Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi
Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger
Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom
Wing Commander Prophecy
Wing Commander Armada
Wing Commander Arena
Privateer
Privateer 2: The Darkening

Beat it (and the addons), beat it (and the addons), beat it (damn you for making such a cop-out for removing such an awesome ally through the previous games without any explanation without digging through the source material), beat it, beat it, impossible to beat (was just a training simulation), monkey shit piece of crap that should burn in hell, beat it, beat it.

Also, I STILL have the boxes and manuals and everything else from most of the games. The pinnacles of my 'collection' are the first two games:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/055vhdkdcnbk2ea/2013-08-07%2020.06.37.jpg (yes, that is a poster that shows the technical readout for the best ship in the first game - it had those for all the ships, plus an awesome in-lore manual/magazine)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/pi7tuxwndg5zweg/2013-08-07%2020.06.50.jpg

Where you only needed 640K of RAM, a 12MHz or higher PC, a 'hard drive' (or dual floppies), and the want to play some of the best games for their times.

So yes, I LOVED Wing Commander. And this is why I'm GLADLY throwing money at Chris Roberts (and no doubt will do so after launch, too) to see his talents being used for another space simulation title.

Also a big giant middle finger to all those developers out there who think 'the genre is dead'. FUCK. NO. Star Citizen has made 15 MILLION in crowd funding from nearly a quarter of a million dedicated fans who all want to see another space game and haven't done so in flippin' forever (with very, very few exceptions).

1, 3, 4, Prophecy, and Armada.

Somehow I skipped 2, or only played a small amount of it.

Armada actually got a ton of multiplayer play with a friend of mine. I still remember a crazy maneuver I did to pull off a win in one of the battles where I didn't have any shield left and only half armor. My opponent had no armor but full shields and all weapons ready. I know I'd die if I didn't try something, so I flipped around and straight up rammed him, slicing through his ship since collisions do direct damage through shields.

You forgot to add the excellent fanmade Wing Commander Saga smile

I finished WC3, WC4, WC Prophecy and it's add-on, and WC Saga. The older ones I've always found too hard, but I'd love a modern take on these games, including the hand-painted dialogues and places to visit in the ship. It did a good job immersing you into your role as a fighter pilot.

I beat 2 and 3, trying to remember if I beat 4.  WC2 has the honor of being one of my first IBM PC games. I got it at the same time as Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge and Ultima VII; when I could not master the memory voodoo of U7 I got WC2 and MI2 at a used computer game store and played through both.

I've never played 1, Prophecy or the Privateer series.  I had Armada but I don't remember doing anything other than random battles.

I've owned all of them, finished 1, 3, and 4.

I remember the sales dude at Babbages rolling his eyes when I was there before the store opened the day WC3 came out.  Of course, my 486 at the time was woefully inadequate for the task, so I had to wait until I got a Pentium to actually play it at a decent framerate.

There was never a more awful sound in the history of video gaming than when incoming kilrathi fire had brought your shields down and was hitting your armor.   thumbsdown

I love the blooper reel from WC3. biggrin

Also of old school memories from Wing Commander - how the music would change 'dynamically' based on what's going on. You had your standard 'all is okay' music, along with 'in combat', 'target destroyed', 'missile on your tail', and 'in danger combat' (basically the game telling you that your shields have dropped or that you're in severe danger).

It seems so simple nowadays, but it worked oh so well back in the WC1/WC2 era.

Another thing I loved about the Wing Commander and X-Wing/TIE Fighter era was that it was standard practice to have custom graphics for each cockpit interior.  As the genre moved on, more and more games did away with them, but I always thought they were one of the most essential parts of immersing you in the universe.

Privateer did this the best out of any of the Wing Commander games.  When you were in the trading-oriented ship, you felt like you were flying a duty-built clunker that had its controls and screens wherever they could find a convenient place.  When you were in the combat-oriented ship, you felt like you were in a lean and slick modern fighting craft, with all the controls and screens placed in the places that would make one the most effective killer.

I beat 1,2 and Privateer.  I played 3 and Privateer 2.  I'm pretty sure I was in a an anti FMV mode at the time and didn't like them on principle.  I should probably give them another chance.

Yes! How disappointed I was when WC4 quit doing that. Although you do see less with half your screen cluttered smile But still!

Beat WC1, 2, 3, 4 and Privateer 1 and 2.  loved them all and WC1 is a huge reason why I wanted to pick up a PC back in the day.  Probably beat the first three at least three times when you counted the various ways to end the game with a loss.  Miss that games don't do this outside of strategy games any more for the most part.

Played but never beat Prophecy and Armada.

It's been almost 20 years since WC3 and I'm still pissed about Hobbes.
