trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hi225wWHnw

it's a cyberpunk FPS that's supposedly due out next month.  here's a preview that makes it sound like it'll be decent, but I'm wondering if, in my case at least, I can go for a straight action Cyberpunk game after Deus Ex.

it's going to have a hard time getting noticed with DE HR out right before.  should have released this back in June.

Ah, I don't think this is anything like Deus Ex besides the superficial "futuristic cyberpunkish" setting.  This is more pure old school shooter without the stealth and upgrades and all that jazz.

I think it will have a hard time finding a mass market audience because it is a small game with limited scope that has just been announced a few months before release, but that is another matter.

Giant Bomb has a decent Quicklook for this one, and I'd say they really seem to like it so far.

There seem to be quite a few nice polished touches, so hopefully if the full game is that quality it will see some good support from the PC crowd, despite hitting so soon after Deus Ex.

The demo starts with a rather exposition-heavy comic-book style cutscene and then you get about twenty minutes of gameplay.  The game is definitely in the Serious Sam/Bulletstorm mold.  You enter an area, the music swells, and then you get rushed by a bunch of enemies as you run around trying to survive.  You can upgrade your weapons (two kinds - standard and energy) with nanopoints you collect by exploring.  You can also use elements of the environment (electricity, exploding barrels) to attack your foes.  The demo was fun, and the price is lower than most ($26.99 if you preorder) but I'll be still be waiting for reviews.

I think I had already preordered this one on Steam, but had I played the demo first I'm not sure if I would have.  It certainly wasn't terrible, but the shooting wasn't particularly satisfying.

The guns (especially that starting assault rifle) didn't have a lot of impact "oomph", either with sound or hit effects.  And it never helps to be shooting metal robots which only have sparks and ricochet dings, instead of the more satisfying fleshy impact sounds and effects.  I know their whole deal is that you only have 2 weapons that transform into many more variations, but frankly I much prefer seeing different weapons since it makes it much easier to know what I have equipped at any one time.  Once I had three different energy weapon types I was just scrolling up and down a bit randomly in combat.

I did find it funny that there were hidden rooms accessed from other hidden rooms.  Clearly you just blow up everything you can, assuming the wall behind it leads to goodies.

Ron's super duper official review is up. Looks promising, but maybe not worth full price?

Sweet, I just picked up the bundle for $5.  Probably will only play this one though.
